Improved Parent Council To
Work With Guidance Counselor
Several weeks ago, a discussion cussions.
between George McCutcheon, guid-
ance counselor, and a few interested
parents of High School students,
brought forth some new ideas for
an improved Parent Council. It
was felt that little or np benefit
was gained in the past by a meet-
ing, attended by a handful of par-
ents. It was decided that meetings
were unnecessary to carry out our
new plans that the Parent Council
should concentrate its efforts on
helping all students, particularly
those not planning for college
careers. As a result of this thinking
our aim became — “The Placement
of All Students After Graduation,
in Further [Education or Employ-
ment of Some Kind.”
Plans are to work closely with
the Guidance Department. Realiz-
ing that students who plan con-
tinued education in college, business
college, technical school, beautician
school, etc. have their own definite
plans for the immediate future, the
group will therefore give special
emphasis to students in the General
Course.
We hope to accomplish this by
contacting people from our own
and neighboring areas, representing
all types of jobs, electricians, bar-
bering, caterers, nurses, and count-
less others. Through the coopera-
tion of Mr. “McCutcheon and the
Parent Council, students who are
undecided, will have the opportu-
nity, with their parents, to meet
these representatives in an effort
to choose a position or career. Mem-
bers ‘of Parent Council will provide
transportation for parents who wish
It is our aim to provide 100%
job and college placement for all
senior graduates. We are planning
a Scholarship Fund to give further
assistance to our young people. In-
formation has already been received
from schools and areas which have
had wonderful success with such a
Scholarship Fund.
Mr.. McCutcheon is making a
survey of students in both Senior
and Junior High School to deter-
mine interest in occupations.
Mrs! A. A. Sinicrope was ap-
pointed chairman of the newly or-
ganized group, Mrs. John Ferguson
secretary. Mrs. Carlton Davies,
Mrs. Fred Eck, and Mrs. Justus
Lotts will act as advisors. !
The motto of the ‘group is “To
Build a Better America Tomorrow.
We Must All Work Today.”
Parents who visit the high schools
during Education Week, will be
given further information,
