THE DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1962
Trinity United Presbyterian To
Mark Birthday With Dedication
This week The Trinity United
Presbyterian Church will mark its
first year of Services on Sunday
with Dr. Peter K. Emmons preach-
ing and Reverend Robert R. Smyrl
taking” part.
The first formal Church Service
was held on September 24, 1961
with Reverend Peter K. Emmons,
D.D., Pastor Emeritus, Westminster
Presbyterian Church, Scranton,
preaching. He continued to minis-
ter to the Congregation for several
months, after which Rev. Robert R.
Smyrl, Executive Secretary of
Lackawanna Presbytery, served as
Pastor until the Organizing Minister
was called in March, 1962.
Appropriately, Dr. Emmons and
Rev. Smyrl will return on Sunday.
To mark the occasion the newly
acquired property of the Trinity
Church will be dedicated. The
property is located along the Coun-
try Club Road adjacent to Dallas
Junior High School, and comprises
approximately seven acres, No im-
mediate plans for a building are in
the making, but the Congregation
hopes that a building will be a pro-
ject in the near future.
Trinity Church is the dream of a
few Presbyterians residing in the
Back Mountain Area who felt that
there was a need for a Presbyterian
Church here, since there was no
Presbyterian Church between Lu-
zerne and Tunkhannock. A small
group began meeting in October,
1960 and by February, 1961 was
able to present ‘to the Lackawanna
Presbytery a petition of 151 names.
A Commission of Presbytery stud-
ied the situation and recommended
that a Church be founded. Rever-
end Andrew Pillarella was called in
March, 1962 to be the Organizing
Minister, and Trinity was formally
organized on June 10, with 121
members.
Rev. Peter Emmons
The Session is composed of nine
elders: Raymond R. Carmon, Lester
W. Hauck, Robert Jones, Mrs.
Thomas Longmore, Donald A. Mil-
ler, Archer E. Mohr, Leroy Roberts,
Ronald 'S. Woolcock, Robert W.
Ziegler. There are nine deacons:
Mrs. Jean B. Clayton, William G.
Cooper, John R. Corke, Mrs. John A.
Dungey, George H. Hamm, Harold
L. Hoover, William M. Lawson,
Robert H. Miller, Clifford D. Troup.
A well staffed Church School
meets every Sunday morning at 9:45
preceeding the regular Church serv-
ices at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Virginia
Swanson is Organist and Choir Di-
rector. Mr, William Lawson is the
Deacon in charge of Physical ar-
rangements.
A special invitation is extended to
all of the worshippers who attended
the First service to return for this
Anniversary Celebration on Sunday.
