Booster Shots {Urged Before School Opens The Pennsylvania State Depart- ment of Health today urged parents to have ‘their children protected by booster shots before the opening of the school year. Dr. J. ARE YOU THINKING of Changing prising Region VI, 21 per cent of children entering school in 1961 were not protected against diphthe- ria, whooping cough, and tetanus and only 39 per cent were completely protected. Against polio, 19 per cent had no protection and only 38 per cent had complete protection. The study cov- ered 32,631 children in 791 schools in Region VI (Berks, Carbon, Dauph- in, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Mon- tour, Northampton, Northumber- land, Schuylkill, Snyder, and Union counties). Parents should have their child- ren vaccinated and immunized dur- ing pre-school years; preferably dur- ing the first year of life, before they are exposed to the diseases, Dr. Millington recommended. Dr. Millington pointed out that there is more danger of contacting diseases when a child goes to school because of the exposure to a larger number of children. A thorough checkup by the family doctor who knows the child's de- velopement, his reactions and what diseases he has had is recommended by Dr. Millington. He said the record enrollment expected this year may cause delays in routine examinations by the school physician. “Health is a determining factor in the scholastic progress a student will make during ‘the year,” Dr. Millington said. Rotary Students Here From RAustralia (Continued from 1—A) minimally, 45 minutes. Having been in this country only a little time, Nancy does mot know yet what to expect. She receives advice and itineraries from every- one she meets. America, like her native ‘Australia, is a very big par- cel to digest in just g little time. Already signs of brother-sister palaver pop out’when she and the Lacy children talk. Carolyn Lacy will attend Wyoming Seminary this fall, so the young folk will travel back and forth together. Mr. Lacy is an architect, and his home is both beautiful and imaginative, so Nancy will enjoy fine surroundings. On her return trip next year, she hopes to stop in England and, may- be, France. This is her first time out of Australia, but Nancy has al- ways wanted to visit France. Her mother studied there for some # | years. In the meantime, the Back Moun- tain welcomes this fine young visitor with all its heart. SUBSCRIBE TO THE POST OR 4-5816 FOR A FREE CTL en IFN RI LC) SURVEY ; MONK Plbg. & Hig. i MN.
