Driving to Johnson City on Sun-
day, with canoes lashed to the tops,
were- six cars. Mr. and Mrs. Butler
carried two canoes on their station
wagon; Michael Chalowick, John
Malloy, Edwin Kupstas, Cathleen
Sicket, and Mr and Mrs. Lauren
Dymond were in the caravan.
Mr. Butler says that all canoes
except one were discarded craft,
stripped down and reconditioned by
the Explorers, recanvassed and
painted.
Rules for entry were str wh Each
boy had to be physically fit and
hold a physician's certificate, and
have his parents’ consent. Each
boy must have helped the troop with
its service project, helped condition
his share of the load and the re-
sponsibility.
Some of the service projects Ex-
plorers . have = completed include

Daughter Of Pioneers
| Mrs. Anna Richards, a member of
the Dallas Post Eighty-Plus Club,
died aged 83 Friday morning at
General Hospital & where she had
been admitted two days earlier.
She was buried in Beaumont Cem-
etery Monday afternoon. Rev. David
Morgan, former pastor of Alderson
Methodist Charge, was assisted by
present pastor, Rev. John Stahl, Jr,
in conducting services from the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph
Lutes of Lutes Corners.
Confined to the house for a num-
ber of years, Mrs. Richards, a na-
tive of Kunkle and lifelong resident
of the area, took an enormous
liking to Rev. Stahl, because of his
kindness in calling on her.
Until her husband, Kiler, died 27
years, ago, Mrs. Richards had helped
{ him with operation of the Richards
Fruit Farm at Alderson. Her fore-
bears owned a great deal of prop-
erty around and in Kunkle, pioneer
settlers of the region.
Her parents were the late John
and Marilla Wardan Kunkle.
While still active in the fruit-
growing business, she was ‘an en-
| Shusiastic member of the Grange.
| She belonged to Kunkle Methodist
: Church and its WISCS.
Surviving “are: two daughters.
Mrs. Lutes of Lutes Corners, and
Mrs. Palmer Updyke of Kunkle with
whom she made her home; two sons,
John, of Greene, N. Y., and William
K., of Vestal, N. Y.; a sister, Mrs.
Marietta Wardan of Shavertown;
fifteen = grandchildren, thirty - one
great-grandchildren and a number
of nieces and nephews.

Andrew Kopgho, 81, native of
Czechoslovakia nd resident of Nox-
en for the past thirty-five years,
died Sunday morning at General
Hospital. He had been in failing
health for some time.
He was buried Wednesday morn-
ing in the parish cemetery, Pringle,
following Parastas services Tuesday
night and a mass of requiem cele-
brated at St. Mary's Greek Catho-
lic Church in Kingston.
Coming to this country as a young
lad, he lived in Luzerne for many
years. Advised to give up mining
as: an occupation, he farmed after
moving to Noxen.
+ He leaves his widow Julia; a son
Julius of Noxen; a stepson, William
Hollas, also of Noxen; four grand-
children.
