DONALD F. STOCK
Donald F. Stock, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Grover (Stock, Main Street,
Dallas, was made a Fellow of the
American Ceramac Society recently
at a dinner given in Pittsburgh.
A graduate of Kingston Township
High School in the Class of 1941.
Mr. Stock is with Harbison-
Walker Refractories Co. in Pitts-
burgh. He is a member of the Re-
fractories Division and the National
Institute of Ceramic Engineers.
Mr. Stock attended Pennsylvania
State University and received a
B.S. degree in ceramic technology
in 1949. After graduation he joined
Harbison - Walker as a research
engineer. He was named adminis-
trative assistant to the director of
research in 1951 and laboratory
manager. of the company’s Hays
Laboratory in 1954.
Mr. Stock, who has held the posi-
tion of laboratory manager of the
Garber Research Center since 1958,
supervises the work of a staff of
70.
His certificate reads as follows: |
“The American Ceramic Society
upon the recommendation of the
Fellows and the action of the Board
of Trustees has conferred upon
DONALD F. STOCK in recognition
of productive scholarship in ceramic
science and notable contributions to
the ceramic arts and industry the
title of FELLOW OF THE SOCIETY
with all the “honors and privileges
pertaining thereto.” :
After his graduation from Kings-
ton Township High School where
he was an outstanding student, Mr.
Stock spent one and a half years
at Pennsylvania State. University.
His student career, interrupted by
World War II, he became a First
Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps,
serving for four years and one
month as an instructor on highly
technical work .
After the war he completed his

is married to an Ohio girl. They

Mrs. Fred Howell
Loses Her Brother
Sympathy of the community is
extended to Mrs. Fred Howell,
secretary of Back Mountain * Me-
morial Library Association, whose
brother Ripple Carey Smith, 71,
2172 Chestnut Street, Carlsbad,
Cal, died: Wednesday at the Naval
Hospital in San Diego.
Born in Scranton, he grew up in
West Pittston, and Wilkes-Barre,
and for many years was a certified |
public accountant in Scranton.
He was a graduate of Wyoming
Seminary and Hamilton College and
for a time taught science at the
Peddie School in New Jersey.
He was a direct descendent of
Eleazer Cary, a Revolutionary
soldier of West Bridgewater, Mass.,
who settled in ‘Wilkes-Barre in
1769 and was entitled to land laid
out by the Susquehanna Company.
His two sons were in the Battle of

Commandery, Knights Templar and
a member of Irem Temple.
Besides his wife the former Helen
Huff, Dunmore, he leaves a son
Sheldon Field Smith, Vista, Cal,
three grandchildren and his sister

cisco before he sails next week.
On Wednesday evening the An-
derson’s’ entertained at an outdoor
barbecue as a bon voyage party for
Fred. Present were Pastor and
Mrs. John ©O. Lindquist,
Barre; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Neuner,
Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. John Clause
and daughter, Brenda, sister Susie
and the guest of honor.
Home From Canada
Mr. and Mrs. John Dietz daugh-
ter Cheryl and Harry Haar, have
returned home, after a week's vaca-
tion at Bahi Lake in Canada.
