Dies Unexpectedly
At Home, BEged 64
Walter Shaver, resident of Sha-
vertown for the past 48 years, and
in the Motor Transportation busi-
ness for 25 years, died suddenly
Sunday morning at his home on
Pioneer Avenue, succumbing to a
heart attack.
He was buried in Evergreen
Cemetery yesterday afternoon fol-
lowing services conducted from the
Bronson Funeral Home by Rev.
Howard Harrison and Rev. John
Stahl Jr.
Mr. Shaver would have been 65
years old July 25. He had not been
ill. carrying on his freight trucking
business for Seaboard Tank Line
and American Auto Stores as usual.
A native of Ceasetown, he was
son of the late Elias and Lilly Cease
Shaver, member of the Shaver fam-
ily for whom Shavertown wag
‘named. He was a member of Dallas
Jr. OUAM.
His widow is the former Ruth
Holcomb. A daughter, Mrs. Demmie
Watson, flew in from San Diego
when informed of the death. A
son Wellington came from Niagara
Falls, and a foster son Robert J.
Koons from (Oklahoma City. There
are four grandchildren and three
greatgradchildren,
Dr. James R. VanLoon
Dies Of Heart Attack
Dr. James R. VanLoon, chiroprac-
tor, suffered a heart attack at his
home at Harveys Lake Thursday.
Admitted to General Hospital Sat-
urday morning he died one hour
later. He was buried Tuesday
afternoon at Fern Knoll, Rev. Robert
D. Daffin, pastor of Memorial Pres-
byterian Church, officiating.
‘Dr. VanLoon had been a practic-
ing chiropractor in Wilkes-Barre for
27 years. He was a graduate of
National Institute of Therapeutics,
Washington School of Chiropractics,
and a member of the Naturapathic
Association.
Born in Wilkes-Barre in 1897, he
was son of the late Frank T. and
Anna Mae VanLoon.
Masonic connections included Key-
stone Consistory, Irem Temple, and
St. John’s, Pittston.
Surviving are: his widow, the for-
mer Ruth Anderson; two daughters,
Lois June VanLoon and Clorinda
VanLoon; a sister, Mrs. Clorinda
Britt, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Hill Cumorah Pageant
Takes Place Aug. 1 to 4
Young Mormon elders Joseph L.
take part in the annual pageant at
Hill Cumorah, near Palmyra, N. Y.,
August 1, 2, 3 and 4, leaving Dallas
July 23 to spend two weeks in com-
pany with the 150 other Mormon
missionaries and hundreds of Mor-
mon young people who will enact
the history of the Mormons in this
country, beginning with 600 B.C.”
The pageant, taped stereophonical-
ly in Utah, will be broadcast from
25 stages on the hillside, under
brilliant, artificial lighting. Actors
will work out the action in panto-
mime. Last year the pageant at-
tracted 150,000 sightseers.

Remarks were made by the pas-
tor, Rev. William Reid, and a gift
presented on behalf of ‘the church

of the New English Version of the
New Testament, suitably inscribed

Back Mountain YMCA Day Camp
will climax the first two-week
period on Friday with a special trip
and outing. Four staff members
with 33 campers will travel to Val-
mont Industrial Park, West ITazel-
ton in the morning to tour Bread-
land, US.A. of “the ultra-modern
Spaulding Bakery, then to Camp
Kresge, for lunch and an afternoon
of activities including a swim in
Beaver Lake.
Members of the Day Camp dur-
ing the first two-week sessicn in-

Sylvanus Eroh, 80,
Dies At Cresson
Sylvanus Eroh, 80, Harveys Lake,
died Friday night in the Flick {State
Hospital in Cresson. He was buried
Tuesday morning, following services
| conducted from a Wilkes-Barre fu-
neral home by Rev. Charles Bomboy.
Mr. Eroh, 80, was a resident of
Harveys Lake. Prior to retiring thir-
teen years ago, he had been employ-
ed at Huber Colliery. He retained
membership in Ashley Presbyterian
church and Patriotic Sons of
America, He was born in Dorrance
Township October 5, 1881.
Surviving are three daughters: |
Mrs. Mary Still, Bridgeport, Conn.
Mrs. Alberta Lohman, Trucksville;
Mrs. Hilda Ward, with whom he
made his home at Harveys Lake;
two sons, John and Harold, both of
Wilkes-Barre; twelve grandchildren,
nine greatgrand children; a. brother,
Martin Moyer, Mountaintop, and a
sister Mrs. Goldie Garrison, Han-
over.

In failing health for the past
three weeks, Mr. Blizzard, 70, died
Monday morning a few hours after
admission to General Hospital. He |
had suffered a heart attack two
years. ago, but was still acting as
fire warden for the Evans Falls
area, reporting through Forkston
fire tower.
Until five years ago, he had been
employed by the Noxen Tannery.
His parents were the late Hiram
William and Nellie Ann {Shook Bliz-
zard.
For some years, he and his wife,
the former Nettie Evans, spent the |
winters in Florida, accompanied by |
their son Raymond Jr. who, shares
a home with his parents.
Other Survivors include a daugh- |
ter, Mrs. Wayne Hadsall of Beau-
mont; nine grandchildren;
