last week in Atlantic City.
Mrs. John Allen and Bobby and
Judy are spending some time in
Texas visiting the late John's sister

who has been a guest at Carpenter
Convalescent Home, is now a pa-
tient at General Hospital.
Mrs. Irene Moore has returned
to her home, East Dallas, after
spending the winter in Homestead,
Fla., with her daughter and son-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dymond.

Avenue, is taking a ten-week course
at Pennsylvania University prior to
joining the faculty of Towson
State College, Baltimore, Md., this
fall. For the past two years he has
been instructor at Montclair, N. J.,
High School.

Mrs. Leslie Agnew Is
Hostess At Picnic
It was almost a family reunion
Sunday at the home of Mrs. Leslie
Agnew and family, Briarcrest Road,
Idetown, when she entertained in
honor of Lt. Commander and Mrs.
Charles Bolon and family of State
College. Mrs. Bolon is Mrs. Agnew’s
sister, former Jane Brown of Ide-
town. She and her family will leave
shortly for Monterey, Califs, where
Lt. Bolon has been transferred with
the U.S. Navy Air Force. He has
been with the Navy for thirteen
years. There are five children; Tad,
Gina, Johnny, Linda and Molly.
Mrs. Agnew served a buffet picnic
supper in her yard to Mr. and Mrs.
Ambrose Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Am-
brose Jones, Jr. and family, Mr. and
Mrs. William Honeywell, and son,

Baby Is Home
Barbara Sue Wickard, 5 week old
daugter of Mr. and Mrs. Duane
Wickard of Windsor, N.Y., is home
after being hospitalized in Wilkes-
Barre General Hospital for tests.
Mrs. Wickard, the former Joy Steele
is staying with her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Basil Steele of Sweet Valley.
The other Wickard children, Fallie,
Duane Jr., and Steven are enjoying
their vacation at Grandma and
Grandpa’s.
Return To Alaska
Charlie C. Cowart Jr., recently
home on an emergency 30 day leave
has returned to |Alaska to finish his
year tour of duty. He will be re-
turning home in November. His
wife, the former Betty Roese and
his 5 month old son are anxiously
awaiting his return.
Eastern Star Choir
To Sponsor Social
The choir of the Dallas Chapter,
396, Order of the Eastern Star, will
have an Ice Cream Social Saturday,
July 14, at the Kunkle Fire Hall on
Route 309.

Honored Twice In May
Capt. Harold C. W. Birth
Captain Harold C. W. Birth, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde W. Birth, 109
S. Pioneer Avenue, Trucksville, was
honored by the 10th Tactical Recon
N. G. twice during the month of
May. Captain Birth and Navigator
Lt. D. W. Kirkschner, McKeesport,
Pa., achieved the most outstanding
reconnaissance photograph of the
week on two different occasions. The
photographs were mounted and put
on display in the 10th T. R. W. War
Room for viewing by the comman-
der and staff.
Captain Birth is married to the
former Vida R. Kocher of Ruggles
and has two children, Cynthia five
years old and Bradley, three. He is
presently stationed in England.
Carrie Phillips Leaves
For Bermuda By Plane
Carrie Phillips, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Phillips, Demunds Road,
left Saturday by plane for Bermuda
to spend a two week vacation with
her sister and brother in law, Chief
Petty Officer and Mrs. Henry Phillips
and family. Mrs. Phillips and her
two children will return with her
for a two month’s visit with her
parents.
Carrie is employed at Laros Inc.
‘During her vacation last year she
flew to Kansas to visit her
and brother in law.

Past Matron, Honored
By Eastern Star
The Dallas Chapter 396 Order of
the Eastern Star, was highly hon-
ored at the Philadelphia Grand
Sessions last week when one of its
members, Mrs. Ann Roberts, Past
Matron, received a Grand Appoint-
ment as a member of the Pennsyl-
vania Homes’ Auxiliary Board. Mrs.
Roberts, who resides at Sunbury,
is a former resident of Claude Street,
Dallas.
Graduuation Party
Rochelle Mendelsohn was hon-
ored at a graduation party Sunday,
June 10 given by her parents. She
received many lovely gifts. Mem-
bers of her Sunday school class
were guests. They, were: June

James Hoyt On Saturday, July 7
Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Freeman,
Kunkle, announce the approaching
marriage of their daughter, Ada
Mae, to James Hoyt, son of Mr. and
Mrs, Clyde Hoyt also of Kunkle. Rev.
L. E. Peterson will perform the
ceremony. in First Baptist Church
Beaumont, 2 p.m., Saturday, July 7.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion will be held in the Kunkle Com-
munity Hall. \
Miss Freeman' is a graduate of
Monroe Township High School. She
is employed by the Anwell Dress
Shop in Kingston. Mr. Hoyt is a
graduate of Westmoreland High
School and served with the U.S.
Navy for two years. He is employed
by the Forty Fort Dairy at Center-
moreland.

Former Trucksville Boy Weds
Shirley Carson At Georgetown
Shirley Ann ‘Carlson, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Carlson,
Wilridge Road, Georgetown, was
married Saturday, June 23, to
Douglas W. Riddell Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Douglas W. Riddell Sr.,
former Rice Street Trucksville resi-
dents. Douglas is nephew of Mrs.
Della R. Case, Briarcrest Road, Ide-
town.
Rev. Joseph Cleary officiated at
the nuptial mass, high noon, in
Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown.
The bride wore gown of white
nylon organza and lace with back
accent of winged bustle. Her el-
bow-length veil was gathered to an
organza rose crown trimmed with
seed pearls and she carried large
white chrysanthemums with pale
pink sweetheart roses.
Carol Wood and Terry Satkow-
sky, both of Georgetown, were maid
of honor and bridesmaid, respec-
tively. They were attired in match-
ing daytime dresses of pale pink
nylon organza with floral em-|
broidery in deeper pink bordering
the skirt. They wore pink pill box
hats of organza, trimmed with veil-
ing, and their bouquets were of
white sweetheart roses.
Donald Kovacs of Norwalk was
best man and John Madden of Nor-
walk and David Carlson of George-
town, usher.
A reception for 90 guests was
held in the IOOF Hall in Ridgefield
where a buffet luncheon was served.
After a trip to New York the
couple will reside at 68 Wilton
Avenue, Westfield.
Both are employed with Westfair
Air Service, the bride as an office
clerk, and the bridegroom as a me-
chanic. Mrs. Riddell was graduated
in 1960 from the Wilton High
School and Mr, Riddell attended
Norwalk schools.
Carverton Class Plans
Old Fashioned Social
“Pairs and Spares Class”, Carver-
ton Methodist Church will sponsor
an old fashioned Ice cream-straw-
berry social July 14, starting at 5
p.m. David Perry Jr. is chairman.
The ice cream will be hand
turned by the stronger men in the
class, the cream custard made by
the ‘women. The kids will lick the
paddles.
In addition to the ice cream,
there will be luscious home made
strawberry shortcake, the kind
Grandma used to make, old fash-
ioned. home: made root beer, made
by Stephen Stearn, the traditional
fish - pond, directed by Mrs. Donald
Searfoss, home-made cake and pie,
hamburgs, hot dogs, coffee and
cold drinks. :
The Carverton Methodist Church
is located on Church Road which
branches off Carverton Road at the
old red sawmill. Carverton Road is
between West Eighth Street, West
Wyoming and Trucksville.
Class Of 1942, Luzerne
To Hold Reunion July 7
The 1942 Class of Luzerne High
School will hold a twentieth re-
union on July 7 at the Castle Inn.
Cocktails 7 to 8, dinner 8 to 10,
dancing to the tune of a combo, 10
to 1. Reservations must be in the
hands of Norma Whitesell Smith by
July 2. Eugene Brennan is chair-
man, Betty Ann Montross Clark, co-
chairman.

Celebrates Birthday
fc James P. Fluck will enjoy a
{ belated birthday celebration on FPri-
day at the home of his parents Mr.
and Mrs. John Fluck Sr. of Harvey's
Lake. Pfc. Fluck turned eighteen last
week,, June 27, while serving at Fort
Knox, Ky., and posponed observance
until he could be at horfie on a ten-
day leave. He will return to Fort
Knox on Tuesday.
Present will be his parents; his
sister Katherine; Mr. and Mrs. John
Fluck, Jr.; cousins Francis Romano
and Karen Sutcliffe from Philadel-
phia. Rev. and Mrs. Andrew Derrick
from Fernbrook.
Susan Jean Veitch
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Veitch,
Center Hill Road, announce the
birth of their first child, Saturday,
| June 30, at Nesbitt Hospital. Susan
| Jean weighed in at seven pounds,
