# Sleeping Bag Ignites
A “Trucksville Boy Scout, Ronnie
Richards, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Richards, Harris Hill Road, is.
"in fair condition at Nesbitt Hospital
with burns on his left side, arm and
elbow suffered early Sunday morning
when his sleeping bag caught fire
while he was camping out with a fel-
low Scout, Wayne Besecker, 12, son
of Mr. and Mrs, Delbert Besecker.
He is being treated by Dr. Charles
Perkins of Trucksville.
As they had done many nights dur-
ing the past three years, 'the boys
were camping out in a lean-to about
100 feet from the Besecker home.
They had a small fire for cheerful-
ness and to keep them warm. Both
boys were asleep back to back when,
about 1:30, Ronnie was awakened
by fire in his sleeping bag.
He crawled out, rolled on the
QFround to extinguish the flames but,
unable to do so, ran through the
windy night to the Besecker home
where Mrs. Besecker attempted to
@ymother the flames in a carpet and
"Mr. Besecker tore the smoldering
clothing from his body.
They called Mr. and Mrs. Richards
who immediately took Ronnie to
Nesbitt Hospital where they have
remained with him since.
Both boys are students at Trucks-
ville Grade School.
Welterweight Boxer
Trains At Lake
Rated as one of the ten leading
contenders for the welter weight
boxing championship, Joe Salci,
22, young Wilkes-Barre boxer, will
be training until] October at Har-
veys Lake.
A training ring has been erected
in the parkade at- Link's Tavern
where there will be daily training
exhibition , bouts throughout the
summer with well-known sparring
partners from Philadelphia.
Later this season Salci will try for
the welterweight championship of
Pennsylvania against an opponent
yet to be named.
Salci has lost only two bouts in
his last thirty-five.

Was Accomplished
Pianist, Homemaker
The heart of the community was
touched Friday afternoon with the
knowledge that Mrs. Anne Elizabeth
Young, 41, mother of twelve chil-
dren, had passed away that after-
noon after a brief illness at Mercy
Hospital.
Apparently in excellent health
and with no previous medical his-
tory as a warning, Mrs. Young, the
wife of Dr. Jay Young chairman of
the Chemistry Department of Kings
College, was stricken Thursday eve- |
ning with a massive cerebral hemor- |
rhage at her home 84 Norton Aven-
ue, Dallas. She was taken immedi- |
ately to the hospital in Dallas Com-
munity ambulance.
A devoted mother, homemaker |
and wife, Mrs. Young was born |
1920 at LaFontaine, |
the daughter of Alice
Troyer Neff and the late Clarence |
Neff.
She attended the grade schools |
LaFontaine, and, after High |
studied two years at Man- |
College, North Manchester,
Indiana, until transferring to Ball |
State Teachers College at Muncie.
She was an accomplished musi-
cian, and, had she continued her |

however, she married her childhood |
sweetheart on June 29, 1942, just |

Along ‘State Highway
A Plymouth boy received painful
lacerations of the face, and two
| automobiles were completely demo-
lished Sunday night at 9:30 when
they collided head-on in front of
the home of Chief of Police Byron
Kester of Orange.
Edward Atwell, 15 and his mo-
ther, Grace, passengers in a car
driven by Edward Atwell, Sr. 49,
337 Shonk Street, Plymouth, were
taken to Nesbitt Hospital in the
Franklin-Northmoreland Ambulance
by Stacy Schoonover, Garry Storey
and Carl Besteder.
Mrs. Atwell, who had injuries to
the leg, was discharged but her son
Edward was admitted. Thirteen
sutures were required to close his
facial lacerations.
The accident occurred when Al-
bert Balavage, 49, Tunkhannock
RD 5, driving toward Centermore-
land, accompanied by his wife,
Anne, 31, and a companion Howard |
Goble, 162 Warren Street, Tunkhan-
nock, drove his 1954 Ford sedan to
the far left of the center line crush-
ing the Atwell machine against the
stone wall in front of the Kester
home.
A passing Centermoreland motor-
ist took Mrs. Balavage, who was
suffering from a badly cut lip, to |
Nesbitt Hospital where she was |
treated and discharged.
Chief Kester said he was about to
retire, when he heard a noise that
“sounded like my son’s house ha
exploded”. Then he heard moaning |
and screaming.
Investigating, he found Balavage
obviously under the influence of |
liquor” and had him taken by his
deputies, Buell Kester

A former resident of Forty Fort,
Prater was graduated from
Forty Fort High School "in 1951,
from Wilkes College in 1955.
was graduated from Virginia
Episcopal Theological Seminary,
Alexandria, Va, in 1958.
Mrs. Prater is the former Ingrid
Forck of Cologne, Germany, and
was a student at Wilkes College,
where she met Mr. Prater.
They were married November 23,
1957, in Grace Episcopal Church,

sell baked goods.

Pony rides for the children, be~
ginning at 3:30 Friday and Saturday
after noons. The buff colored pony,
to be auctioned off Friday evening
at 8:30, will be saddled for riding
Friday afternoon; the cocoa colored
pony on Saturday, warming up for
the auction Saturday evening at
8:30. Dale Mosier will lead the
ponies. P
Plenty of parking at Dallas
Borough School. Buses have been re-
routed to skip Lehman Avenue dur-
ing the three days of the Auction.
New goods will again belon dis-
play along the fence on Lehman -
Avenue, with approximate times of
auctioning.
The Key Club got back from Den-
ver in time to man the Barn, and
John Butler's Explorer Scouts will
again rush the purchases to the pur-
chaser. {
