The Boy Scout experiment in
mulch farming is going great guns
out on Huntsville Road, where Troop
232, under instruction of Mrs. Joan
| Brobst, is trying out some revolu-
| tionary, methods of planting and
culture.
The mulch has proved one thing
already: Tt conserves what little
moisture is in the ground, and
prevents drying out during the un-
usually hot weather. Mrs. Brobst
| says the field could use even more
mulch, spoiled hay and straw, etc.
Men are asked to cooperate in an
interesting experiment by wvolun-
teering to haul hay.
Mulching permits planting on top
of the soil, seeds and potatoes “cuts”
protected by mulch. As the roots
strike down into the soil, nvideh
turns into humus.
Some of the Scouts are gaining
their gardeners’ badge by working
the plot. The prime purpose is to
start a treasury for the Scout
