College Announces Summer Session
Registration Dates June 22 And 23 §
College Misericordia’s registration
dates for undergraduate and grad-
uate summer
22-23, Sister M. Rosarie, R.S.M,,
registrar, has announced. The sum-
mer session on the campus will run
from June 25 to August 3.
In the undergraduate program
courses leading to the B.A. and
B.S. degrees are offered in the fields
of rhilos ophy, psychology,
education, English, speech, foreign
languages, music, home economics,
sciences,

fered. A workshop in theatre di-
rection will be held for ‘high school
teachers daily during the summer
session, A workshop in teaching
modern mathematics in grades: 4,

first week of July.

Causes Longing for Quiet Life

According to Mrs, Gertrude Allen '
{ Doane, she will retire from her

| Doane retired in 1959 after five and
a half years of service to Wilkes. |
Concerning her return to Wilkes
| after a year and a half absence,
Mrs, Doane remarked that “It was’
| an unexpected year but a pleasant
one. Now, my professional life has
ended in all fairness to Wilkes Col-
! lege.”
Since her return to the college,
| Mrs. Doane, with her charming and |
gracious personality, has given guid- |
and assistance to students
with personal and academic prob- !
lems, In addition to her duties as
Dean of Women, she again assumed
the position of faculty advisor to
Theta Delta Rho and the assembly
| committee.
Upon completion of her duties at |
| Wilkes, Mrs. yDoare SXDgELy to spend

the summer at her home in Ide-
{ town. She and her husband antici-
pate’ constant visits from their"
family, + As Mrs. Doane stated, “I
children.” Dr. and Mrs. Doane
{have eight grandchildren. After an
| eventful summer, Dr/ and Mrs. Do-
ane will spend the winter in Florida
| with their son.
While she is at home, Mrs, Doane
will return to her interest in the
bird sanctuary which enhances her
backyard. Another hobby which de-
lights her is the maintenance of the
| beautiful flowers surrounding her
| home.
“I will be able to renew friend-
ships for which I have been unable |
to find time because of my full-time
position here.” Mrs. Doane added
that “I will also have time to pick
up the loose ends of my extra-cur-
ricular activities in the communi-
| ty.” Her plans include her active
participation in welfare work at the
state and local levels.
Mrs. Doane was born in Mans-
field, Pennsylvania and began her
studies for a teaching career at
Mansfield State Teachers College.
After her graduation from Mans-
field, she did advanced work at
Emerson College, Boston, Massachu-
setts.
Mrs. Doane has been a prominent
figure in welfare circles, serving as
a member of the State Advisory
| Committee for the welfare of chil-
dren in rural areas, a member of
the Child Welfare Committee and
the Planning Council of the Wyo-
ming Valley Community Chest.
She was also a member of the
Board of Public Assistance in Lu-
zerne County, a member of the
Executive Board of the Northeast-
ern Heart Association, a member of
the State Advisory Committee on
Child Adoptions and president of
the Children’s Aid Society of Tioga
County. Mrs. Doane is also past
president of the Wyoming Valley
Women’s Club and the Pennsylvania |
State Medical Association's Women’s
Auxiliary.
The Doane family includes three |
sons, all doctors; a daughter, and |
eight grandchildren. During this
past week, Mrs. Doane was feted at
a TDR Senior Banquet.

tival on the hospital lawn June 27.

mills can be had as well as pickles,
sweet and sour,
