~ Land Use Proposals For This Area
The Land-Use discussion, sched-
uled for 7:30 last Tuesday night, got
off to a late start, transferred from
the Dallas Senior High School aud-
itorium to the school library.
A number of real estate men
in addition to private citizens and
supervisors, tossed the ball of zon-
ing around, without reaching any
| definite conclusion except that the
area does, indeed, need a plan for
‘zoning which will leave fine resi-
dential] areas undisturrbed while al-
| locating areas for sprpercial de-
velopment.
The suggestion made by represen-
been in the past, more compact
neighborhoods, clearly marked di-
vision between residential and com-
mercial zones; and provision made
for recreation areas,
A number of men who fought the
zoning plan proposed over twelve
years ago for Dallas Township,
spearheaded at that time by Clar-
ence Laidler, now are for zoning,

Maps showed the present trends
in growth.
With shrinking of population in
the anthacite region, communities
dependent upon the Valley's econ-
omy for their own employment such
as the Back Mountain, become bed-
‘room communitiees, and increase
mittee. Thomas Garrity, Lake Town-
ship real estate man, says zoning
is a must, if valuable properties are
not to decrease in value:
The question of adequate water
supply was brought up; Here, Dr, F
Budd Schooley said that he had
been fighting that battle for years
both as a health officer and a pri-
growth of the Back Mountain hinges
upon the water supply, and that any
kind of a community sewage dis-
posal plan would have to depend
upon adequate water.
