    DALLAS; PENNSYLVAN IA
He asked Mr.. Lewis if he would
send some of his men down to his
house and. put up a solid high board
fence between him and his neighbor,
as Mrs, Morton whom he called
Nervie (Minerva) was always
watching his movements and = he
figured that a- high board fence
would solve the difficulty.
So the fence was built on the
line between the houses 16 feet
high and braced. for stability. It
stood for years but was finally
blown down. Finally he called in
one of his close friends and told
him that he was about to die, and
would like his dog to be given to
a neighbor, and that his rifle was
not to be used or shown to anyone
but to be thrown in the deepest
part of the lake.
It might be possible that the old.
rifle will be recovered some day by
the skin-divers who are very active
these summer days. It would really
be news!

Well after Mr. Lewis obtained
title to the woodland up Bowmans
Creek, the Lehigh Valley Rail Road
came through Dallas, Harvey's Lake,
Noxen and Stull and on to Dushore.
There was a train from Alderson,
known as the log train. Every
morning it would leave for the day
ind return in the afternoon with
tons of logs that were rolled off the
cars and into lake near saw mill.
This train left early one foggy morn-
ing. Soon after the train began the
day’s trip, the engineer hit, what
he thought was a cow or deer, but
it was Reuben Parks, who it is
thought put himself in front of the
train deliberately or at least it
would seem to be so.
It is said that ‘he mever wore
glasses and was known to be one
of the best woodsman of his day.
There are not many living today
that knew him personally and I
have sought to learn where he is
buried but to no avail
He was a learned man, not book
learning, but wood learning like
the mountain men of the west.

Overheated Stove-Pipe
Causes Blaze At Noxen
Fire from an overheated stove-
pipe badly damaged furniture and
clothing in a bedroom at the Ron-
ald Hopfer home in Noxen last
Tuesday night. Breaking out at 9:30,
it was fought. by Mr. Hopfer with
a hose attached in the kitchen un-
til arrival of Noxen and Harveys
Lake volunters, who speedily ex-
tinguished the blaze, confining it
to the one room. It was one of
those very cold nights, unseason-
able for May.
The Hopfer have two small child-
ren, 5 and 3, not in the bedroom
at the time.

Mrs. Newman Asks
Dolls For Auction
Mrs. Arthur Newman, now busily
dressing dolls for the Library Auc-
tion, - asks that women who have
antique dolls which they want to
donate to the auction, get them
to her within the next ten days,
so that she will have some idea
of what clothing will have to be
made, and what needed repairs
done,
The Belle of the Ball, Ruth Miriam
Library, is dressed and ready to
go on exhibition, a very chic model
in rose and white, a Paisley lady in
the mode of the past century.
Mrs. Newman still needs nylon
stockings for stuffing of bed-toys.
