Mrs. Eliza Arber, 78
Buried In Columbus
Mrs. Eliza Arber, 78, Shavertown,
died last Tuesday night at Nesbitt
Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was buried in Columbus, N. J.
Friday afternoon, Rev. Robert D.
Yost officiating from a Kingston
funeral home.
Mrs. Arber and ther husband
Samuel B. G. Arber, observed their
54th wedding anniversary recently.
Her husband is a retired engraver,
formerly with FrankB. Clark Jewel-
ry store.
For the past 26 years, Mr. and
Mrs. Arber lived in Shavertown,
where Mrs. Arber was active in
iShavertown Methodist Church and
its WSCS, Shavertown branch of
Nesbitt Auxiliary, and Dallas Chap-
ter of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, she
leaves three sisters: Mrs. Rebecca
Eckersley, Mrs. Margaret Hall, and
Mrs. Augustus Townsend, all of
Columbus; also several nieces and
nephews.

Walter E. Harris Dies
After Prolonged Illness
Walter _ E. Harris, Trucksville,
died at 73 Saturday morning at
Nesbitt Hospital, following a pro-
longed illness. He was buried Tues-
day afternoon at Fern Knoll, Rev.
Robert Bermond officiating.
He was a mative ‘of Jackson
Township, son of the late Robert
and Elizabeth Goldsmith Harris. He
was last employed as a farmer by
Hillside Farms in Trucksville, His
wife Lillian died nearly thirty years
ago.
He was a member of Truc ksville
Methodist ‘Church and Osage Lodge
712, 1060F, Lehman.
He leaves a ‘brother Dory im
California, and a number of nieces
and nephews. ;
One Of The Last Of The
Blacksmiths Dies At 86
Harold Thompson, 86, one of the
old-time blacksmiths, died last Wed-
nesday night at the Faulkrod Con-
valescent Home in Mehoopany,
where he had been a patient for
the past six months.
He was buried at Orcutt Ceme-
tery [Saturday afternoon. Rev. John
‘Gordon officiating from the Nulton
Funeral Home.
For many years, Harry Thompson
shod horses and shrunk wagon rims
to farm ‘wagon wheels in a shop be-
hind his home in Noxen.
He was born in Lockville, son
of the late John and Mary Sickler
Thompson, but lived in Noxen most
of his life.
Surviving are: his widow, the
former Fannie Dennis; two sons:
Wesley, of Plymouth, and Francis,
of Noxen, two daughters: Mrs.
George Slater, Elmira, N.Y.; and .
Mrs. Robert Hilbert, Marysville;
| thirteen grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; two brothers: “Norm-
an of Noxen, and Nelson of Dallas;
a sigter, Mrs. Florence Condon, Har-
veys Lake.

Only one pastoral change in the
Back Mountain resulted from the
Wyoming Methodist Conference held
last week at Elm Park. ;
Rev. J. Edwin Lintern leaves Cen-
ter Moreland Charge for Chinchilla,
and = Rev. William Watson, West-
over, N. Y. replaces him at the Cen-
ter Moreland charge, which includes
East Dallas and Dymond Hollow.
Rev. Lintern has been at Center
.{ Moreland for three years.
All other Methodist ministers of
the area retain their pastorates.

The Pioneer Girls held a Mother
and Daughter tea last Tuesday eve-
ning, May 15th, at the Shavertown
Bible Chruch,

Jessica Thomas Injured
In Fall While Teaching
Miss Jessica Thomas, High School
English teacher at
schools, is at Mercy Hospital, where
she was admitted by Harveys Lake
ambulance last Thursday morning.
Miss Thomas was injured when: a
strap which holds her kneecap
motionless, broke while she was
returning to her desk after adjusting
a record player for her class. She
had leaned her crutches against the
wall, and was unable to catch her-
ex-
tensive brusing.

| Sherman Hoover Has
Fatal Heart Attack
Less than four. months after his
wife was killed in a traffic accident
on Lehman hill, Sherman A. Hoover,
64, died at his home at Oakdale,
following a heart attack. He was
buried in Orcutt Cemetery. :
Mrs. Maude Hoover lost her life
February 9.
Mr. Hoover, resident of Hunlock
Township for 35 years, was a car-
penter and builder oft homes in the
Back Mountain. He was a member
of Roaring Brook Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Sher-
man and Donald, both of Hunlock
Creek R. D.; six grandchildren, and
a sister, Mrs. Hazel Williams, Ply-
mouth.
Elizabeth Parks, 80,
Buried At Idetown
Elizabeth Parks, 80, former area
resident, passed away last Thurs-
day at the Home for Homeless
Women, where she had been a resi-
dent for the past eight years. She
was buried in the family plot at
Idetown Cemetery.
She was born May 27, 1881,
daughter of the late Franklin and
Carrie DeLong Parks of Idetown.
Surviving are a brother and two
sisters: P. H. Parks, Kingston; Mrs.
Wilbur Hopkins, Largo, Florida;
Mrs. Minnie Doty, Jenkinstown.
Bernard Sorber Has
Fatal Heart Attack
Bernard ‘W. Sorber, 49, Hunlock
Creek, died Wednesday afternoon
shortly after admission to General
Hospital suffering from a heart at-
tack.
He was buried in Sorbertown
Cemetery, following services con-
ducted by Rev, Oscar Saxe.
A native of Hunlock Township,
his parents were the late Lyman
and Laura Neely Sorber.
He is survived by his widow, the
former Nora Fink; a son Ronald and
a daughter Sheila, at home: a sis-
ter, Mrs. Arthur Lamoreaux, Hun-
lock Creek.

Dying within minutes after suf- |
fering a fatal heart attack, Andrew |
to get the car stopped and safely off |
the road, for the protection of his |
daughter Peggy, 11, who was in the |
car with him when he was stricken. |
Mr. Sholtis stopped the car on |
Church Street, next to the Whit- |
taker property, so gently that it |
did not bruise the trees.
He was |
breathing his last when Ames Swish- |
er helped him from the car and |
called Dallas Community ambulance
and Dr. H., G. Gallagher. |
He blad made the long grade up-
hill on Church Street, and was
levelling off near the Center Hill
Road intersection, on the way back
from Gate of Heaven Church Sun-
day night at 9, to his home on Up-
per Demunds Road.

A native of Exeter, Mr. Sholtis
had been resident of Dallas for the
past thirteen years, for ten acting
as Maintenance man at Natona
Mills. He belonged to Gate of
Heaven Church and its Holy Name
Society. Before joining Natona
forces, he had been a self employed
contractor. i
He is survived by his widow, the
former Mary Zerostek; his mother
Mrs. Susan Chismar, Exeter; sons,
Angjrew and Paul, at home; daugh-
ters, Mary Ann and Barbara, at
home; foster-children, Peggy and
Eleanor Adamitis, at home; sisters,
Mrs. Mary Kozich, Dallas; Mrs.
Michael Yanchick, and Mrs. John
Fedorchak, Wyoming; Mrs. Al Chor-
ba and Mrs. David Ligi, Exeter; Mrs.
William Maslowski; York.
A brother, Michael, died in May
1959.
