school after an absence due to

home of Marie and Letha Wolfe.
Easter scriptures were read by Es-
ther Alles and the program was by
Mae King. Refreshments were
served to Addie Kyttle, Carrie
Wolfe, Edna Karschner, Edna Re-
bennack, Ruth Rogers, Linda Ro-
gowski; Esther Alles, Dorothy
Steele, Mae King,, Hazel Winter.
Shirley Bryant spent Easter
with her grandmother, Mrs. Leona
Cooper, Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Robbins
and Mrs. Louise Fraley, Princeton,
N. J. spent Easter week with Mr.
and Mrs Walter Wolfe and Letha
Wolfe. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bron-
son, Champagne, Ill., recently visited
the Wolfe's.
Mrs. Claudine Daily was a dinner
guest of Mrs. Aanie Winter and Mr.
will have his eighth.
Rev. Merritt Updyke, 52, former
resident, is a patient at the Good
Samaritan Hospital, Watertown,
N. Y. where he underwent brain
tumor surgery Wednesday. He is
still in a coma.
Rev. Updyke, pastor of First Pres-
byterian Church, Wichita, Kansas,
returned his daughter, Mrs. Gary
Jones, home at Baldwinsville, N. Y.,
to be admitted to the hospital. At
his bedside are his wife, daughter,
Thelma Jane, and brother, Rev.
Warden Updyke, Pikes Creek and
Endicott, N. Y.
Other brothers and sisters are
Rev. Roland Updyke, Fred Updyke,
Mrs. Walter Tworek, Pikes Creek,
and Mrs. Ralph Frantz, Shavertown.
He is the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Updyke, Sweet Valley.
Cub Pack 444, met April 24, at
Church of Christ. Rev. William G.
Hughes gave the prayer. Cubmaster
Burl Updyke presided. Theme was
“Troubadours” and each Cub made
his own ‘Musical’ instrument. Den
2, sang songs. Den mothers are
Marjorie Williams and Delores Gar-
rahan. Bernard = 'Saluta is Den
Chief. Den 3, entertained with
songs around a camp fire. Musical
selections were by, Allan Stroud,
Douglas Young and Bing Wolfe.
Douglas Young entertained with a
reading, “The Easter Message”
Barry Ray, Den Chief, Master of
Ceremonies. Mrs. Floyd Wolfe is
Den Mother, assisted by Mrs. Frank
Beuka. “The World Around us” is
the theme for May. Howard Piatt,
treasurer, explained the use of the
Cub’s weekly dues.

Ronald Rogowski observed his 20th
birthday at Mildenhall, England on
April 26 and Al celebrated his on
April 30.
Diane, Danny and Debbie, chil-
dren of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Cor-
nell have recovered from measles.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Hendricks,
Plainsville, N. J. announce the birth
of an 8 lb. son, Wesley Stephen,
Wednesday, April 25, at General
Hospital. Mrs. Hendricks is the
former Jackqulin Covert, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Covert with
whom she will spend some time on
returning home from the hospital.
Mr. and ‘Mrs. Irvin Taylor and
children, Wayne and Valerie and
Mrs. Minnie Root, Syracuse, visited
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Adrian
Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Taylor
and Pamela recently visited the
Taylors.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ide and
Grace recently spent some time
visiting Lawerence Ide in Washing-
ton, D. C. They also visited Mount
Vernon.
Mrs. Martha Pahler, Noxen, Mrs.
Helena Fike, Mrs. Dancy Kelly and
Howard Pahler, Hopbottom visited
on Saturday with Mrs. Annie Win-
ter and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Winter
and family.

Thursday, at Trucksville Methodist
Educational Building. Morning

the death of their sister, Mrs. Mary

Church and will continue to May
13. Mr. and Mrs. Linebaugh are tal-

Roy Bloom, Main St., has return-
ed home after a stay at the Rehab-
ilitation Center in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Jane Sowers, Fern St., has
returned home after spending sev-
eral weeks in Plymouth.

Take one correspondent plus one
typewriter that has need of repair
and the result is no news for Shav-
ertown people. Rather than let this
continue until the typewriter is re-
turned, the staff at the Dallas Post
will have to suffer through my pen-
manship that can stand much im-
provement.
Mrs. Margaret Shoemaker, Divis-
ion Street, is confined to a wheel
chair as a result of a fall that
broke her ankle. Mrs. Shoemaker
is a cafeteria aide at Westmoreland
School. She is also one who seems
to have a smile that really comes
from within. Hope the weeks go by
very rapidly for you, Margaret.
Glad to hear that Mrs. Clyde
Birth, Pioneer Avenue, is back on
her feet having had a cast removed
from her leg recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kreigh, Divis- |.
ion Street, have Frank's father at
their home. He is convalescing after
a recent illness.
Mrs. Margaret Shepherd and son,
Jimmie, have returned to Old Lyme,
Conn. after spending Easter and
the following week with Mrs. Shep-
herd’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stan-
ley Davis, Lehigh Street.
George Bednar, Notre Dame stud-
ent, has been visiting his family
on Hazeltime Street, for the Easter
vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Dick, Le-
high Street, will spend the week-
end at Sky Lake as counselors
for an MYF group of Trucksville
Methodist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. James Dick, Lehigh
Street, have gone to Chicago to
visit their daughter, Dawn, and fam-
ily. The Dicks spent the winter
in Florida and went directly to
Chicago from there.
Master Mark Spaciano celebrated
his eighth birthday Sunday at a
family dinner and a trip to Sans
Souci Park for an afternoon of
fun,
William Dickson, Lehigh Street,
had his place of business, Kingston
Metal Specialties Co., Parry Street,
Luzerne, broken into last week.
However, the burglars were unable
to cope with the safe.

ton Road, Mrs. Joseph Diffendaf-
fer; Huntsville, Mrs. Janice Rice,
Orchard Farm and Mrs. Robert

meeting of Luzerne County Federa-
tion of Womans Clubs at Genet-
ti’s Lodge in Hazleton on April 24.
Mrs. Brown is ‘Second Vice-Presi-
dent of the Luzerne County Fed-
eration.

with a family dinner for Mr. and
