That was close!” Ructioneers Must Take Examination And Purchase A $25 State License Secretary’ of the Commonwealth @ E. James Trimarchi, Jr., has re- minded auctioneers that the dead- line to apply for a State License is March 1. Secretary Trimarchi, whose office is charged with adminstering the new Auctoneers’ License Act, said about 1,500 applicatios have been distributed but the response has been. poor. The Act, passed by the 1961 General Assembly, requires that anyone wishing to conduct auctions in Pennsylvania be licensed by the Department of State. “Although we believe now there may “be more auctioneers than originally anticipated — perhaps as many as 2,000,” he said, “the re- sponsibility to get the license is theirs. “More applications are being printed, and they are available to anyone who wants one. “However, we do not have a com- plete list of all the auctioneers and apprentice auctioneers in the Com- monwealth, and some of the initia- tive will have to be taken by them if they want to practice their trade in Pennsylvania.” ( Secretary Trimarchi also said his Department has received only 200 applications to date, but that some of them had to be returned because COMPLICATES CURRENT ISSUE OF DALLAS POST Getting out the Dallas Post this week was complicated by the flight of the astronaut and the incidence of George Wash- ingtons Birthday, When the astronaut was within ten minutes of blasting off, the Dallas Post locked the door, pinned a note to it read- ing “Be back right after the flight starts,” and rushed for the nearest television set, leav- ing the office to fend for itself. And where did George Wash- ington’s birthday come into the picture? George Washington's birth- day annually closes the Post Office. This year, it falls on Thursday. Tuesday is the day the Dallas Post is mailed. That ‘is why subscribers are getting their papers one day early and: restaurant patrons are wondering if they are one day off in their calculations as they spot the local paper on the rack. Q. E. D. Sell Quickly Through Post Classified Ads they were mot accompanied by a certified check or money order. “Under no circumstances,” he said, “can we accept an application that is not accompanied by a certi- fied check or money order. We cannot accept personal checks in payment of the required fees.” Fees for the annual licenses are $25.00 for experienced auctioneers and $10.00 for apprentice auction- gers, i.e., auctioneers with less than two years’ experience. To qualify, auctioneers must be 21 years of age or older. Apprentice EYES EXAMINED GLASSES FITTED CONTACT LENSES DR. I. BERGER OPTOMETRIST 27 Machell Ave., Dallas Phone OR 4-4921 auctioneers must be at least 18 years old. The Commonwealth will offer quarterly examinations for all new license applicants, the first examina- tion to be given on Saturday, April 14th. Secretary Trimarchi said experi- enced auctioneers will be exempted from the April examination if they establish that they have at least two years’ experience by March 1st, the deadline for filing applications. In the future the examinations will be held on the second Saturday of January, April, July and October.
