Electric Heating Top Requirement
For Today's Gold Medallion Home
How do you know your new home
meets the highest standards for
modern-day all-electric living?
Solid assurance for the home-ownef,
as well as insurance for resale
values, comes from your local elec-
tric utility. RES
The utility is empowered to cer-
tify homes for the Gold Medallion
Home award if they have electric
heating and meet other require-
ments in appliances, lighting and
wiring. Though the nature of many
of these standards, based upon
industry minimums, varies with
local conditions, one rule does not
change: to qualify as a Gold Medal-
lion home, your residence must
have total electric heating.
’ Reason Why
Electric heating is the heart of
A Gold Medallion home; there are
nd’ substitutes for total electric
living. The electric * industry be-
lieves that ‘only the most
modern, efficient advances in elec-
tric ‘equipment and service should
qualify a home for its highest award.
The most dynamic newcomer to the
industry scene, of course has been
the electric heating system. Its
arrival was promptly recognized by
its inclusion in Medallion Home
standards, when these were first
set two years ago.
Now that electric heat has been
proven economical in terms of in-
stallation and operation, it will ex-
perience a vast surge of growth.
It’s anticipated that over 2 million
homes will be warmed by this new
heating method by 1967.
Choices
While Gold Medallion standards
insist on electric heating, the home-
owner has a number of choices. He
can pick and choose from among
the following methods:
(1) unit heaters -— portable,
wall mounted or ceiling sus-
pended.
(2) radiant glass panel heaters,
portable or for wall mounting,
(3) heating cable,
be installed in the ceiling or in con-
crete floors.
(4) panels of conductive rubber
or other materials for attachment
in ceilings.
(5) heating units installed in
plenums (air chambers) of pack-
aged air conditioners, In warm air
ducts or in individual floor furnaces.
(6) self . contained fan - type
electric unit heaters for wall or
ceiling mountings.
(7) heat pumps.
Less Expensive
You should consult with your
utility and electric heating con-
tractor if you're interested in
totally modernizing your home.
Check with your = builder and
utility if you're buying a new resi-
dence. It’s less expensive to install
total electric heating during the
planning and construction stages.
Ten Below, Officially
Officially it was ten degrees be-
low zero Sunday morning at 7:30,
but Back Mountain residents report
everything from a cautious ‘zero
or thereabouts, probably,” to an
outright 22 below in the Sweet Val-
ley area, reported by Bob Evans, a
Charles Long employee.
