It is a thrill to be in his barn at milking time where the business end of milk producing takes place. It is a regular milk factory! The herds stand high among the other Holsteins in Pennsylvan- ia. At the Pennsylvania State Farm Show held in Harrisburg last week Ralph Sands’ entries received the following: 2nd prize Holstein bull calf; 2nd prize junior yearling bull; 1st prize heifer calf and reserve junior champion; also 1st prize for Get-of-sire being sired by Sands- dale Sovereign Tribute which has been sold to Lehigh Valley Breed- ing Cooperatives of Allentown. Also Ralph had 5th and 6th prize junior yearling heifers; 3rd and Tth prize for 3-year old cow. ! It is with commendable distinc- tion that for 12 consecutive months ‘the Sandsdale milk has tested Ex- cellent in bacteria count. The Sands family is well-known in cattle and auction circles. Ralph's brother Jim is a cattle dealer liv- ing up out of Tunkhannock toward Montrose. Herman Sands, the fath- er is sometimes at Ralph’s and sometimes at Jim's. Mt. Zion was well represented at the Farm Show by Nancy and Betsey Alling, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William Alling. Nancy’ won 4th prize with her heifer calf in open competition and 1st prize in the 4-H division. Betsey Alling’s took 12th place in the open compe- tition. This was in the Holstein heifer class under 1 year of age and 4-H competition. Nancy and Betsey are both mem- bers of the Rams 4-H Club which is the newest 4-H Club in Luzerne County.
