Her mother and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Carkeek, Sweet Valley re- cently celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary. These people manage their own affairs as to everyday chores and the like. They were married in the Dallas Meth- odist parsonage by the late Rev. Fred Young. They are the parents of Mrs. Ernest Eve, Hamilton, Ohio and William Carkeek, Portsmouth, Qhio, besides Mrs. Hontz. They | have lived their married life in and around the Sweet Valley area. Mrs. Naomi Pauling, N. Main Street, entertained recently at a birthday luncheon honoring Mrs. Thomas Bottoms of Dallas. Present beside the hostess and honored guest were Mrs. Kenneth Hunter, Bret Hunter and Michael Culver, all of Dallas. Johnny Anuskiewicz celebrated his seventh birthday on Sunday. Johnny lives on Division Street and attends Shavertown Elementary School. A family birthday party was held. y Larry Spaciano, aged 9, fell on Saturday and hurt his hand. This hurt hand turned out to be a jagged broken wrist. He is in a cast from his elbow to the middle joint of his right hand and will be in from six to eight weeks. Larry lives on Di- vision Street and attends Trucks- ville Elementary School. Qur main highway is beginning "to take on the look of a ghost town. Robert G. Lorentz is a patient in the U. S. Public Health Hospital in Staten Island, N. Y. Mr. Lorentz is a former serviceman and is in the New York hospital for an annual check-up, He resides on Demunds Road. To-day is Open House at the Y- Center in Wilkes-Barre. The pro- gram consists of an inspection of the new auditorium and health edu- cation facilities. A free slimnastics lesson will be given followed by a plunge in the pool. Lunch is available from 12 t 1. The after- noon special presentation will be “Art and Architecture” by Peter Bohlin. A tea and refreshments complete the afternoon program. Real progress has been made in the erection of the new Fire Com- pany building. The tanker has been moved to the new site and by the time you read this it is expected that the other truck and ambulance will be comfortably situated in the new building. To-day is the last day for reser- vations for the family night supper being held Sunday evening at 5, in the Shavertown Methodist Church.
