INJURES BIG TOE Mrs. Frank ‘Kowalski, Cease- town, injured the large toe of her right foot in a freak acci- dent at her home on Saturday. Mrs. Kowalski, wearing bedroom slippers, was trying to hurry their slow moving dog out the door, with a gentle boot, but the doorway proved too solid for her toe. Mrs. Kowalski spent the weekend soaking her badly swollen toe. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Johnson and Mrs. Fred Weaver entertained Nora Sivyer, Marie Breen and Mrs. James Breen of Sidney, Australia, over the holidays. Both Miss Sivyer and Miss Breen are Toronto, Canada for England where they, will teach until - July, when they will tour Europe and then leave for home via India. The CNU Class of the Huntsville Methodist Church was obliged to cancel its skating party which it had scheduled for Sunday Night on Slimak’s Pond due to the warm weather and rain making the ice unsafe to skate on. The skating party has been postponed to a later date. During the colder weather of the past week the pond was well patronized. Tax Collector, Louis Wilcox has returned to work at the Court House after a slight heart attack. Sympathy of the community is extended to Samuel Ruggere, Chase Manor on the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Rose Ruggere, who was buried in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Carv- erton yesterday. Mrs. Ruggere, 76, has been enjoying good health but was stricken Friday afternoon and died that night at Nesbitt Hospital. Mrs. Ruggere conducted a conces- sion at San Souci Park for many years and later operated a grocery store across the street from ILu- zerne High School She lived with her daughter Constance in Luzerne. Recertification For Surplus Food During the month of Yornaby Luzerne County Surplus Food De- partment will conduct recertification of all persons receiving surplus food commodities, when surplus food is distributed. In; the Back Mountain, this is to- day (Thursday) The person receiving food will present identification card in the customary manner at the receiving desk and in turn, prior to being checked through to receive food, will be asked pertinent questions as to :his present income and as to whether or not there has been recent change in family status. Fed- eral rules and regulations require persons to-commit themselves under oath as to the validity of qualify- ing to receive commodities. All persons registered for surplus food will take with them to points of distribution, information in refer- ence to ther social security number and if person is on public assistance must present their case number, Persons not appearing for re- certification during the month of January will be stricken from the records. Only in cases of emergen- cy may a person assign a proxyy to act in his behalf A note grant%’ ing permission for that proxy to recertify and to receive surplus food for that month will be necessary. Persons not appearing for re=- certification during the month of January can not be served surplu food in future until they have regis) tered at the main office of the surplus food department, or at point of distributions during the following month.
