BE ON YOUR GUARD
Women of Shavertown be on
guard against furnace-checking
door knockers, This correspon-
dent was called to the door last
week by a man claiming to be
connected with a large furnace
compay. He wanted access to
the furnane room for himself
and a college-type partner. This
was in order to check the con-
dition of our furnace (it works
fine). He was not asked to come
- and fumbled in his attempt to
learn who lived in the home.
The change of street names gave
his an excuse to correct records
he couldn’t have had. When
he was denied admittance, I
received a look that was intend- .
ed to show my complete ignor-
ance of furnaces. It did remind
me of the plight of the woman
in Sweet Valley last year who
had a painful experience with
furnace checking door knock-
ers. So, demand credentials if
you have not ordered a reput-
able furnae man to check your
heating system or make sure
the man of the house is on
hand to protect, if needed, the
weaker sex.
May you and yours have the very
merriest of all Christmasses. See
you next week. \
Beaumont
The annual Christmas party given
to the Beaumont Elementary School
by the P. T. A. will be this Thurs-
day at 7:30 p. m.
The James Kuhls and Mrs. Eliz-
abeth Hess of San Diego, Calif., are
here for the Christmas holidays.
The four Kuhl children have enjoyed
some skating this past week and
hope to see some more snow before
Grandma and Grandpa, Mr. and
| Mrs. George Kuhl, return to Cali-
fornia with them.
Mrs. Herbert Goodwin spent last
week with the Victor LaBrunos in
New Jersey caring for that family
while Mrs. LaBruno, formerly Gert-
rude Goodwin, was hospitalized for
{ time no ashes had been spread.
Within a span of one week resi-
dents of Chase Road from Chase
Corners to the Lake Silkworth Road
were without protection on the
highway, the State Highway Depart-
ment not spreading ashes until
after ten Sunday morning, although |.
ice started to form Saturday night. |
The Department maintains that
this road is a ‘Secondary Road”
and must wait until the main high-
ways are ashed. If our “Tax Happy
Governor” would place more men
on the highways instead of over-
crowding them in offices at Harris-
burg and Wilkes-Barre, the tax-
payers would get a better break. We
would suggest that our citizens don-
tact Representative Fred Shupnik
and have him do something to alle-
viate the problem we have every
time there is a snow or sleet storm.
At least the County had its section
of the road well ashed this week
and the Township Supervisors did
a commendable job on the Town-
ship Roads.
Welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Steinhauf who have moved from
Meadowerest into the Jackie Culp
home on Overbrook Avenue.
James Kozemchak’s car was bad-
ly damaged when it skidded on the

Sunday morning at 11. Up to that
There is fine ice skating on Clar-
ence Meyers’ Spring Lake.

some of her classmates from Wilkes
College and other friends at a Pre-
Holiday Party at her home last
evening. ;
