The W.S.C.S. wishes to thank all
persons who helped make the meat
loaf supper a success.
Mr. and Mrs. H, E. Payne drove
on Sunday to Appalachin, N. Y. to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Dur-
ham. They took Virgie Wolfe
along.
Mt. Zion
Mountain Grange of Carverton
will hold its annual Harvest Home
on October 7 at 8 p. m. in the
Grange Hall. Local farmers con-
tribute fresh fruits and vegetables
and they are auctioned off to the
highest bidder. There will be a
table with freshly baked products
made by the women of the Grange.
Refreshments will be sold. There
is no admission charge and the pub-
lic is invited.
Kings Crusaders Class met last
Wednesday evening at Mt. Zion
Church. The opening worship ser-
vice included colored slides illustrat-
ing the hymn, “For the beauty of
the earth.” Following the business
meeting a “white elephant” auction
was held. The refreshment table
was decorated with autumn flowers.
The entertaining committee was
Betty Earl, Audrey Earl and Cath-
erine Gilbert. Those present were
Made Smith, Ida Howell, Marie La-
Bar, Marion Thomas, Mae Lewis,
Clara Gonser, Janet Dymond, Jane
Lloyd, Emma Miles, Marjorie Seiple,
Alice Daniels and the committee.

them. What can I hurl at them,
short of a nuclear bomb, that will
send them away? I've tried a
small fire, and a smoke cloud, and
a shower of kerosene, and lastly
ammonia—which I would not toss
at a Russian! Yellow jackets are
still there.
Jack and Emily VanTuyle of
Harding have purchased 5% acres
of land from Donald Holmes at Mt.
Zion. This takes along the road
and down around the corner of
“our” road; includes the old school
house near the corner.
On Saturday Catherine Gilbert,
‘who teaches the Kings Crusaders
class in Sunday School and also
helps with the children’s music,
went to Sky Lake to a planning
meeting. This was under the Wyo-
ming Conference Board of Educa-
tion with the Rev. Franklin Kocker,
Executive Secretary, in charge. The
year’s work of the conference in
the area of children’s work, youth
and adult work and general church
school work and also music work in
the church schools, was outlined.
Last Sunday your correspondent
officiated at three services of World
Wide Communion. These jwere at
Lake Winola, Mill City, Falls. It
was a pleasant experiencec to go be-
fore three congregations somewhat
as 4 stranger and find all the ap-
pointments for communion ready
and prepared so that the service
went forward as smoothly as if in
one’s home church. The laymen
of these churches had done their
parts well even as their minister had
organized them to take their re-
sponsibilities.
I noted that Mrs. David Emanuel
of Chester was visiting Leon and
Jean Emanuel, my neighbors on this
road. How do I know? I met her
driving with’ those two adorable
grandchildren, David and Jeffrey!
Our family attended the Festival
of Faith Sunday night in Wilkes-
Barre's First Presbyterian Church.

Chief of Police Robert Cooper is
still incapaciated at his home as
the result of injuries received on
September 7, while fighting the fire
at the Back Mountain Lumber Com-
pany. He received an injury to his
right arm which required fifteen
stitches.
Mrs. Dorothy Lincoln, Chase Road,
reports that the injury to her leg
has healed sufficiently to allow her
to be up and around. Mrs. George
