Miss Harper To Speak At
'WSCS District Meeting
Miss Elsie D. Harper, noted teacher
and economist will speak at the
WISCS district meeting, West Pitt-
ston Methodist Church, on Tuesday,
October 10. Registration will begin at
7 P.M.
Miss Harper, a graduate of the
London Schocl of Economics, took
graduate work at Simmons College.
She is an American citizen and
from 1939 to 1953 was Director of
the Public Affairs Department of the
National Board of Y/W.C.A. and for
three years Director of World Rela-
tions of the United Church Women.
Miss Harper taught at the School
of Missions at Keystone Junior Col-
lege this summer; does free-lance
writing;: and does volunteer work
for the U.N. Economic Social Coun-
cil.
The subject of Miss Harper's talk
will be “The Christian's Responsi-
bility as a Citizen.”
Catholic Daughters Meet
At St. Therese's
Court of Our Lady of Fatimea,
Catholic Daughters of America, met
Wednesday evening for the first
time this season, at St. Therese’s.
Mrs: Eleanor Jacobs, newly elected
Grand Regent, presided.
Chairmen of standing committees
were appointed. Heading hospitality
is Mrs. Catherine Chalawick; host-
esses, Mrs. Anne Jordan; Ways and
Means, Mrs: Loretta Johnson; publi-

Buried At Oakdale
Emma Jane Huffman, 66, Hun-
lock Creek RD 1, died Thursday
morning at Nesbitt Hospital after
a brief illness. She was buried Sat-
urday afternoon in Oakdale Ceme-
tery, following services conducted
by Rev. Delbert Huffman, pastor of
Full Gospel Assembly, from the
Bronson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Huffman was born at Hun-
lock Creek, daughter of the late
Frank and Ellen Davenport Huff-
man.
She leaves a son, William C.
Hunter, Hunlock's Creek, whose
seven children looked to their grand-
mother for much of their care; a
brother Charles Huffman, Shick-
shinny RD.
The - officiating minister was a
nephew.
