Mrs. Major Once Made Beautiful Rugs
Almost ten years age, Mrs. Ella
J. Major posed for this picture in
the Dallas Post, displaying = with
pardonable pride a hooked rug gay
with tulips, roses, pansies,- and
surrounded by a flagstone garden
walk developed | in soft blues and
greys. She sketched for the Dallas
Post reporter the story of her life,
and her fifty seven years as Sun-
day School teacher at Lehman
Methodist Church. Rev. Frank K.
Abbott, minister at Lehman at that
time, took the photograph
Rev. Abbott was to have offi~
ciated at funeral services for his
former parishioner, but was pre-
vented by illness in his own fams
ily from attending. Rev. Norman
Tiffany, Lehman Methodist Charge,
conducted private services from the
Bronson Funeral Home on Monday.
| Mrs. Major was buried at Lehman
| Cemetery.
Until the first of July, Mrs. Ma-
jor 87, kept house for her son Bur-
ton at the family home on the
Lehman-Meeker Road. A broken
hip, accompanied by severe shock,
hospitalized her until two weeks be=
fore her death, when she returned
to her home. She died Thursday
afternoon. .
She was a native of Mountain
daughter of the . late Rev.
Joshua Reynolds and Frances Dur-
land Wagner. When her father, a
Methodist minister, was/transferred
from Mountain Top to Lehman, El-
| la Josephine Wagner met her fu-
| ture husband and settled down to.
spend the rest of her life in Leh-

H. Major; the: 1892 graduate of
Wyoming Seminary taught school
in Lehman for one year. In 1941,
Mr. Major died.
Mrs. Major was a faithful worker
in the Lehman Church, where she
served as organist and superinten-
dent of Primary and Junior Depart-
ments of the Sunday School, and
was a member of the official board.
‘When the steps became difficult for
her, she relinquished her post: as
superintendent and became a mem-
ber of the Luella Neely Bible Class.
She belonged also to the WSCS
and the WCTU.
Always interested: in: education,
and a closer contact of parents with
teachers, she was a charter mem-
ber of Lehman PTA and served for
a term as president.
Pallbearers were - Alan, Homer,
Corey and Stuart Major; George and
John Rice. iE
Surviving are these children: Mrs.
A: S. Simms of Lehman, who until
this year and mandated retirement,
was head of the health department
of Lehman-Jackson-Ross = schools;
Burton, at home; Harold W., La-
grange, Ill; Mrs. Harvey G. Bland,
Gloucester, Virginia; seven grand-
children and five great-grandchil-
dren.
Olive Ide Is Buried
In Lehman Cemetery
S.: Olive Ide, Lehman-Outlet
Road, died Thursday night at Gen-
eral Hospital where she had been
a patient for one week. She was
buried Monday afternoon in Leh-
man Cemetery, following services
conducted by Rev, Norman Tiffany
from the Bronson Funeral Home.
Miss Ide, 79, had been a wheel-
chair patient for several years,
badly crippled with arthritis. Until
disability set in, she and her bro-
ther Raymond collaborated on a
nice garden, which they used as a
basis for canned food for the win-
ter. ; 7s
Since coming from her native
Kansas with her parents Isaac B.
and Jerusha Williamson Ide when
she was a child of nine, she had
lived in the Lehman area. Her
mother, who died in 1941, was a
wheelchair patient for twenty years,
reguiring Miss Ide’s constant care.
She belonged to Lehman Metho-
dist Church and its Luella Neely
Bible Class. which with the death of
Miss Ide and Mrs. Ellen Major, lost
two of its staunchest members on
the same day.
Miss Ide leaves three brothers:
Raymond, Outlet; George, Roches-
ter, N. Y.; and John, Philadelphia;
several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Isabelle Harrison
To Be Buried Friday ..
Mrs. Isabelle M. Harrison, Trucks-
ville, will be buried Friday in Mt.
Greenwood Cemetery, following serv-
ices conductel from the funeral
home in Edwardsville by Rev. Rob-
ert T. Webster at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Harrison, 74, died Tuesday
morning, at General Hospital, where
she had been a patient for ten days.
She was born: in Plains Township,
June 13, 1887, where she resided
30 years. She had since resided in
Trucksville. Mrs. Harrison was a
member of Trucksville Methodist
Church and Service Mothers Group,
Trucksville. Her husband, Sam, died
in December, 1953.
Surviving are a son, Thomas J.
Harrison, Trucksville; a daughter,
Mrs. Helen Vivian, at home; three
grandchildren; brothers, William
Morris, Plains, and Robert Morris,
Wilkes-Barre.
