Enters Air Meet
1600 Model Planes
At Willow Grove
Archy Paltrineri, sixteen, son of
Mrs. Clara A. Paltrineri, Shaver-
town, was among more than 1600
entrants in the 1961 National Model
Airplane Championship who regis-
tered at the Naval Air Station, Wil-
low Grove, Pennsylvania. The meet,
sometimes called the “World Ser-
ies” of model airplane flying, will
run through Sunday.
Contestants in the meet,
Third National Championships
the
Air Station, range from 6 to 60
years old and come from the 50
states as well as from (Canada,
Mexico and Peru.
Competition in the National is
to
be held at the Willow Grove Naval |
divided into three age groups: (1)
Junior Class, open to those less than
16 years old. (2) Senior Class, open
to contestants between 16 and 21.
(3) Open Class for contestants over
21.
The contestants fly their models
in events such as free-flight gas to
radio-control, control-line speed,
jet and team racing contests. In the
Navy carrier events, the modelers
fly their gas engine planes off and
land aboard the deck of the minia-
ture aircraft carrier, the USS Small
Fry. Seaplanes take off from the |
specially constructed lake at the
Willow Grove Naval Air Station.
Contestants winning first, second
and third place in each event are
awarded a trophy. The Grand
National Champion will receive a
perpetual challenge trophy. The |
contest runs from 24 through July
