Mt. Zion
We two retired ministers living
in the Mt. Zion territory get together
to compare notes occasionally. Last
Sunday morning the Rev. Ralph
Weatherly of “Happy Hill” preached
at the Church of the Good Shepherd
in Scranton. And I, Charles Gilbert,
preached at Douglass Presbyterian
Church in the Lee Park section be-
low Wilkes-Barre. :
Monday the Rev. Ralph Weath-
erly motored to North Carolina
accompanied by his granddaughter
Lynn Tallmadge to visit Mr. Weath-
erly’s brother Carl Weatherly.
Next Sunday the Rev. Mr. Weath-
erly will be guest preacher at the
vespers service at Wyoming Camp
| Ground at 7.
Next. Sunday Charles Gilbert will
be guest preacher at the churches

Last week-end Dorothy Gilbert
spent at Hackettstown at a Wes-
leyan Service Guild week-end, re-
turned home Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fitzer and
baby daughter, Cynthia, from Flor-
ida dropped by for a chat. They
were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Fitzers used to be neighbors
of ours at Carverton. Annabelle
Earl lived up the road a ways from
{| us then with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Earl.
The other day when I came home
B | from town Catherine gleefully chal-
lenged: “Guess where 1 was today;
in the middle of the pond!” I was
agog. It seems Billy Miles came
over bringing with him his new
portable boat and had taken Cath-
( | erine for a ride on the pond.
Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Krum

est”” they built their place in a

Miami, Florida, attending the Shrin-

playing pinochle together for almost
twenty-five years. :
Mrs. Granville Carey and daugh-
ter, Pottstown, were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Culp had
as their Father's Day dinner guests,
their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Ashton and chil-
dren, Sandra and Donna. During
the afternoon, Mrs. Myrle Thomas,
‘son Richard, and Mrs. Gladys Ha-
gan and son, Edward of Askam.
Mrs. Robert Cooper, wife of Chief
of Police Robert Cooper, was hon-
ored guest at a surprise birthday
party given June 11. Games were
played, refreshments served and
many gifts received. The following
were present: Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Fiske and children, Paul, Charles
and Dianne, Mrs. Albert Smith,
Darwin Smith, Robert Smith, Jane
Ann Cooper, Allan Cooper, Mr. and
Mrs. Grant Cooper and son, Grant,
and Mrs. Gary Cooper and
son, Gary, Jr., Robert Cooper.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wilcox ~en-
tertained at a birthday gathering
honoring their niece, Mrs. Russell

and daughter (Cathy, Cleveland,
Ohio; Russell Bertram, Jean, Ron-
ald and Donna Lee Bertram.
We have picked our champion
trout fisherman and our catfish
queen, but for “hard luck cham-
pion’’ ‘we nominate ten-year-old
Robert Snyder who had to be in
the \ presence of Fish Warden Culp
‘and Pennsylvania Fish Commission-
er Boyd Maynard, when he caught
a twenty-nine inch! muskellunge
which he had to return to Lake
Jean because it lacked one inch of
being thirty inches long. Bobby
was in the boat with the two gen-
tlemen who were checking on other
fishermen. More than three hun-
dred. boats were on the lake at the
time. Better luck next time; Bobby!
Car Demolished
Sunday night a car driven by
James A. Keating, 37 Kirkendall
Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with Mary.
Sham of Kingston as the other oce
cupant, traveling at terrific speed,
went out of control and turned
around in the middle of the road
just below Chase Corners. The car
spun off the road, rammed the
stone wall in front of Ray Snyder's
house, bounced back, and came to
rest in the Sheldon Rice residence.
Right side of the car was demol-
ished. Kingston Township Ambu-
lance responded, but both occu~
pants refused to go to the hospital.
Officers Jesse Coslett and Gordon
of Kingston Township Police De-
partment assisted Chief of Police
Cooper. Keating had just left an
outing at Konefal’'s Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. James Barrall an-
nounce the birth of a son, 8 pounds
five olnces, William Herbert, at
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital,
June 1. The Barralls have two
other children, Sandra 3 and Jim-
mie 2. Mrs. Barrall is the fromer
Jean. Casterline of Harveys Lake.
