Zion Something unusual frequently happens here at Dunmovin, For in- stance, the other day I was called quickly from my mowing to go down. cellar to see something. Catherine had: discovered on the edge of the cold frame "cellar window a bursted open nest of Praying Mantids. There they were hanging and dropping by the dozen from that upper edge of the window, tiny colorless imita- tions of the adult. How many of them will live we don’t know; the “book” says they are hard to raise. Interesting bugs they are, the only insect that can turn its head this way and that. Cathy has slide pic- tures of an adult and she took pic- tures of these babies. Then more ' excitement when a sparrow brought two or three of her babies to our feeding station on the window silliand stuffed some bird seed into them, first one and then the other. We had wondered how the seed-eating birds who are regular customer of ours ever man- aged to feed their children. Now we know! DALLAS, PENNSYLVANIA Speaking of bird families, our Phoebe family didn’t amount to much this year. Only three of the five eggs hatched, one of those birds died and its mother tossed it out. The other two flew. Whether the parents will try for a second family remains to be seen. Well, aside from the birds—oh. we saw two handsome deer over near the decapitated evergreen trea, by the east corner of the pond. We: were just turning into the yard when we froze and they froze, big ears standing up to catch every sound. Then they thawed -and took off and we came on in. Our family became four again | Thursday night when Dorothy came home after extensive speaking tours in New York State. She is pretty well dated up for this week and then takes off for the annual mis- sionary conference in Greencastle, Indiana, for ten days. Mrs. Roy Thomas (Jr.) has been a patient in Nesbitt Memorial Hos- pital for Several days and is now on the mend. : Dorothy Gilbert was guest speaker Sunday morning at Brick Methodist Church in Duryea and at Fairdale Sunday night. “Our” Marine, Pfc. Eugene LaBar, returned to Cherry Pont, N. C., after visiting home, relatives and friends at Mt. Zion. Pt. E-2 Theodore Kintz, son of the late Paul Kintz of Mt. Zion, had a weekend pass. “Ted” is in the Military Police Battalion at Fort Dix, New Neighbors For two years we have been pass- ing a spot of land on the Wyoming to Mt. Zion road a short distance from the Wyoming Camp Ground. » At first we used to see some people taking a picnic-work spell at this site, cutting brush, clearing up the spot. Wondered who was planning to do what. Recently a contracting firm has been at work and now a neat frame house is built, a 115-foot well is drilled, top soil is evened off in the front yard, cinders are in the carved. out driveway to the two-car garage. Curiosity led me to stop one day when a car was ‘there. Come to find out, a Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Rap- son of Wyoming are the people soon to move in. The land was purchased from the late Nelson Burgess, an old friend of Mr. Rapson. The wooded slope behind ‘the house looks like a bird’s paradise and an ideal spot for a patio and familly picnics. Shaded by tall maples that had to:grow straight up to reach the light there is a scene of beauty from the house. The Rapsons have a son Richard who recently was graduated from Bloomsburg and will be teaching in Belvidere. We are glad to discover that good citizens are to occupy a place here. Hope they feel at home among wus. He. expects to make flower gardens about the place.
