THE DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, MAY 25, 1961
Scout Troop 200
Has Busy Season
Girl Scout Troop 200 of Dallas
attended the Arts Fiesta in Wilkes-
Barre on Thursday, May 18. This
was part of a heritage hike to com-
memorate Girl Scouts in the U. 8.
for 50 years in 1962.
This troop has visited the Histor-
ical Society, Swetland House, Queen
Esther’s Rock and Wyoming Monu-
ment on a previous trip, taking
lunch and eating at ome of the
sites. Plans are being made to have
a tour of the architectural build-
ings of note in this area in the Fall,
They also plan a study of govern-
ment and a visit to the Court House
and City Hall.
The trip to the Fiesta was a four
hour excursion: and was a most
| interesting and enlightening trip for
| girls and Jeaders. They had dinner
at the “Stop and Go” in Kingston
and were transported home by Mrs.
Oliver Rome, Mrs. Donald Davis and
Mrs. Jack Barnes accompanied by
Assistant Leader Mrs. George Bau-
man. J
Saturday May 20 the troop con-
gregated at the home of Ann Barnes
to try out the recently made “buddy
burners” and “Tin can Stoves”.
Green Gal patrol laid a trail and a
Blueberry Patrol following it pick-
ing up tinder, and kindling to build
a campfire upon their return, They
returned to Ann Barnes where the
build a charcoal fire also in prepar-
ation for primitive camping at Camp
Onawandah in August. Games were
played and directed by Ann Barnes.
Pat Bauman supervised the fire
building and was responsible for
extinguishing it.
Girls present were Pat Bauning,
Mary Louise Daley, Betty Rome,
Janine Dierolf, Peggy Rood, Ann
Barnes, Sandra Turner, Cynthia
Konsavage, Sharon Piekanski, Rose
Marie Gobel, Susan Allabaugh,
Betty Lamoreaux and Nancy Davis
and two guests Karen and Kathy
Moore from Reading. Mrs. Jack
Barnes, leader, supervised the ac-
tivities.
to make plans for the Mother and
Daughter Tea to be held June 4 at
3 p.m. in Dallas Methodist Church,
at which time badges will be
awarded and any other recognition
given to deserving girls, Mrs. Clay-
ing as adviser. Her daughters Bar-
bara and Pat will assist with the
swimming and hiking activities.
The Troop wishes to publicly
thank many of the people in the
commun#y for assisting them in
Scout work and particularly the
members of .the Methodist Church
for permitting our girls to ‘meet
regularly in the Sunday School
rooms, }
The troop is again taking care of
the Memorial in Dallas as a Com-
munity Service and tulips were
planted in the Fall donated by an
anonymous person. Yellow and blue
pansies have been planted this
spring and Girls have already
started their work on this project.
Janine Dierolf is in charge and has
made a schedule which hangs in
Kuehn’s Drug Store as a reminder
of the days they must work.
Mrs. Oliver Rome is Troop Com-
mittee Chairman, Mrs. Thelms
Rood, Telephone chairman and
Cookie Chairman, Mrs. Dolly Dierolf
is chairman of the tea. 1000 boxes
of cookies were sold which was the
largest amount for any one troop in
Back Mountain. $40 was realized
which will partially pay for Troop
camping. .
Think of the shock to the average
teenager if he suddenly realized that
in 20 years he'll be as ignorant as
his parents are now.
