Se MONWEALTH TELEPHONE COMPANY Supervisor Candidate Louis Ranier is a candidate for Kingston Township Supervisor, run- ning on the Republican ticket. Mr. Ranier knows what it is to live on a limited budget. When he | was ten years old, as a Scranton boy, | he left school for a time to work in the breakers, netting himself fifty cents a day and a thrashing from his father, a contract miner, for in- terrupting his education. He went back to school, but abandoned for- mal education entirely when he was fourteen. : Mr. Ranier typifies the many peo- ple in the area who must live on a fixed income of modest proportions, who own homes; and who view with alarm the recent and continuing sky-- rocketing of taxes. In 1947 he gathered names for a petition to keep taxes down. Mr. Ranier attends most of the Dallas School Board meetings. He has lived in the Back Moun- tain since 1924, working for the Kingston Coal Mine until it closed in 1939; later for the Glen Alden, and for the Penn Tobacco Com- pany. In 1950, he retired. He recollects that he volunteered for military training with the Na- tional Guard during World War I when placed in a deferred classifi- cation, and won a medal for marks- manship thé first time on the rifle range. . i ience, he says is acquired only after. | friend of Secretary Al Ackerson.
