Spirited Fight His Dad Was Leader In Republican Party THEODORE “TED” WOOLBERT “Ted” Woolbert, 186 Main Street, Shavertown, is one of three candi- dates on the Republican ticket for the office of Tax Collector in Kings- ton Township at next Tuesday's election. /A health condition brought on by twenty-five years of foundry work resulted in a delicate lung operation two years ago and this was further complicated by a thrombosis last summer which left one side partial- ly paralyzed. For these reasons, “Ted” decided early to aspire for! the tax office’ and was the first in | the township to announce’ his can- didacy. “Ted” Woolbert was born and | reared in Kingston Township. His | father’s name, the late “Sam” Wool- | bert, is synonomous to many of the | older people with Republican affairs, | since he served the party for many years as a committeeman and later | as road supervisor. | “Teddy” attended the public! schools and completed additional | courses at Pennsylvania State BEx- | tension School. He has always maintained an in- terest in school activities and points out that since the major portion of the tax collector’s income comes from school taxes he believes that the Republican nominee for this office should believe in the public "schools and have his children attend | them. “Ted’s” daughter, Gail, is a Westmoreland graduate and daugh- ters, ‘Judy and Linda, are now stu- dents there. In 1958 “Ted” instigated a move- ment to furnish a skating rink for | children at the old Little League | Field. Money was raised but the | project had to be abandoned because the field was impractical for skat- | ing purposes. The money was then | turned over to Shavertown “Parent Teacher Association. of the high school | svid stpmortor almost every game in every sport. Woolbert believes that restoration | of the Republican party in this coun- | ty is dependent on new faces and | a revived effort of a united party. | He is, therefore, in sympathy with | the Republican County slate of new candidates and believes that at the | publicans are to regain lost ground | lin next year's gubernatorial and | congressional elections he believes the foundation should be laid in this | year's elections by the individual | voter making sure that he casts his | ballot, In this way the minority | party can show its opposition that it is a live, vibrant and powerful | force in government, “Ted” Woolbert has been a prop- erty owner in Shavertown for many years. His wife, the former Florence | Dilg, has a wide acquaintance throughout the Township and has | Forts, “Tad” is a member | of “the Shavertown Firemen’s Asso- | ciation and the Ambulance fund.
