Zion Signs of spring are both in the ground and in the air. For instance, down on Kitchen Town Hill, Ray Thomas and family had a couple of kites in the air; one is still up there, caught in a tree! That is spring! And on the ground Cleve LaBar has green peas and onions up, Ours aren't even in the ground yet! ~ Pfc. Eugene LaBar of the U. S. Marines is home on a 17-day leave. Finally arrived home at 2 o'clock Sunday morning. Always good to see ‘our Marine” home to his na- tive hills. Dorothy Gilbert has been busy with speaking engagements around about, since coming home from Phil- adelphia. Has spoken at Simpson Church, Scranton; and at the Haw- ley Methodist Church. For the Haw- | ley service ‘all four of us Gilberts were invited to supper at the Silver Birches on beautiful Wallenpaupack at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ehrhardt. Mrs. Ehrhardt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ferris of Lake Ariel. Last Friday Dorothy went with me to visit Pittston Hospital while I made my rounds as chaplain. Then she went with me to he Convales- cent Home at Ransom and spoke briefly to the gathering there. She and 'I sang-a duet. = The residents had long wished I could bring her with. me sometime. That was a high day in America for we heard on ‘the radio just as we pulled into the Home parking place that Alan Shepherd had finally been launched into space. ‘And while in the Home | we got it over the TV that he had been safely returned to terra firma! . After that I took Dorothy on over the. hill to Clarks Summit where she addressed a joint meeting of Clarks Green and Clarks Summit W.S.C.S. women. On Thursday night, last week Dor- othy spoke over at Honesdale Meth- odist Church. And Sunday morning at Troop Church and Sunday School, It is amazing how much more in- terested people young and old are. in Africa during this past year. We have at Mt. Zion a young mother who is doing a unique piece of service. She is Mrs. Leon Emanuel (lives just down the road a piece) and has been studying Braille system of read- ing for the blind. She told about it at the meeting Tues- day night at the Mt. Zion W.S' C.S. She is studying under Mrs. Kenneth Baylis of Dallas, and after completing the funda- mentals she will be required to submit a written manuscript in Braille to the Library of Con- . gress. If this test is accepted - she will be certified as a Brail-. list. Then she will do work for the blind such as transcrib- ing reading matter for students in the Braille system. Last weekend Nettie Parrish and Mary Louise Lewis were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Drakes at Potts- town. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lewis spent last weekend visiting their son-in- | laws and daughter, Mr, and Mrs. | Clayton Kinsey in North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. William Bell, Jr. © will be visiting on the weekend of May 13 their son, Cadet William (Jake) Bell III, at [Pennsylvania Military College at Chester. Cadet Bell is a freshman and this visit of | his parents is arranged by the col- lege signalizing Mother's Day week- end. ; The Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Weath- erly, he was formerly rector of Grace Episcopal in Kingston and now living at Mt. J., recently visited her grandpar- ents, Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Weather- ly. It should be known that the Weatherly home is known as Happy Hill, most appropriate for the sweep- ling panorama seen from their pie- ture window overlooking Mt.
