NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that
Letters of Administration have been
granted in the Estate of Eleanor
Ruth Gricus also known as’ Ruth
Hazeslip, late of Wilkes-Barre, (died
April 7, 1961). All persons in-
debted to said estate are requested
to. make payment, and those having

The principal danger period ap-
pears to be an interval including :
the latter part of April, the month of
May and early June. Research pro-
grams in conjunction with field
observations have shown that the
disease apparently is carried by in-
sects from previously diseased trees
to fresh wounds on healthy trees.
Studies of records of the past
eight years indicate that about 40
per cent of the infection sites over
the state have resulted from injuries
made during this spring period.
The initial observation that
wounding increases the likelihood ofe#
spread of the infection was mad
in 1952 when a row of 17 trees,
blazed with an axe to mark a trail,
‘contracted the disease later that
same summer,
Power line trimming has re
sulted in many instances in intel
tions along rights of way. In one
case, 27 separate infections were
scattered along slightly more than
a mile of trimmed right-of-way. Log-
ging operations, causing wounds on
standing trees, are responsible for
many diseased trees each year,
Scattered groups containing up to
32 diseased trees have been found
following logging injuries,
Once the disease has been started
in a logging area, control is extreme-
ly difficult. Such areas have been
the principal problem encountered
annually since the control program
was started by the Pennsylvania De-
partment of Agriculture in 1952.
Another source of oak tree
Wounding is fence building during
the spring months.
In the event wounding an oak
tree is necessary during the danger
period — the trimming is an ex-
ample — immediate application of
any standard antiseptic tree wound
dressing compound is helpful in Pregy
vention of insect attack and oa
wilt disease infection.

for the Alpha Beta Sales. i
In making the announcement
President Cupp said, “It is grati-
fying to reach a goal and our Bil-
lion Dollar objective toward whi
we have been working, has now al)
achieved. With the capable staff of
people who are the American Stores
Co. and who have worked together
to establish this sales record, contin-
uing in their spirit of enthusiasm
and cooperation, I am confident that
the second Billion Dollars of sales
will be recorded in much less time
than it took to achieve the first Bil-
lion.”
