Information Center
For Child Adoption
A state-wide information center
for children adoption is expected to
start operations in the Department
of Public Welfare in June, Secretary
Mrs. Ruth Grigg Horting said today.
The center will be used two
ways by child welfare agencies:
1. For the exchange of infor-
mation about children for whom
they have difficuity in finding
appropriate homes. |
2. For information ‘about per-
sons who want to make adoptions |
but for whom there are no suit- |
able children in a specific location.
Mrs. Horting said the informa- |
tion center “will open a broader
amea resources to child placing
agencies and will provide homes
for many children who might
otherwise never be placed for
adoption.” |
She explained that the infor-
mation service, known as the
“Adoption Resource Exchange”
is for the use of agencies and in-
stitutions only and will not deal
directly with individuals.
Tt will be operated in -the Office
for Children and Youth at the
Public Welfare Department. Eleven
states have similar information
centers and it is expected that a
national exchange will eventually
be set up.
