PAULINE FREDERICK'S career began in Junior High School in Harrisburg, Pa., when she reported school and social events for the local newspapers. The Gallitzin, Pa. — born young lady, when in American University, decided to become a member of the bar. While studying international law in Graduate School, a history professor suggested that she aban- don a legal career and try her hand at interviewing the Wives of diplo- mats, with the result that a Wash- ington newspaper immediately ordered a weekly series. This was the real beginning for Pauline who later was to cover the Nuremberg Trials; meeting of the Big Four Foreign Ministers in New York and Paris, Alger Hiss and the Berlin Airlift and many other global stories. Although all news is her beat, Pauline specializes in foreign affairs. ROBERT CUMMINGS has an in- teresting background. He was born June 19, 1910, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Clarence Cummings. He was named Charles Clarence Robert Orville Cummings. The Or- ville was for Orville Wright, the pioneer aviator. Cummings began learning to fly in his early teens. He attended the School of Me- chanical Engineering at Carnegie Institute of Technology. After his father’s death, Cummings, who had become interested in college drama- tics, enrolled at the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York but had to leave after six months, to earn his living. He spent his day going ‘the rounds of the theatrical agencies and worked at night as a delicates- sen delivery boy, as an elevator boy, as a switchboard operator. Over six feet tall, well built, dark haired and handsome, he got nowhere in his search for a stage role. Broad- way was under-going a British cycle at the time, so Cummings decided to acquire ga British accent. He scrapped enough money for passage money and sailed for England. He studied accents by cycling around the country. He had his picture taken under the marquee of an Eng- lish theater where a bribed porter had put up in temporary lights “Blade Stanhope Conway in Shaw's ‘Candida.’ ” } As Blade Stanhope Conway he re- turned to New York with an Oxford accent and got a stage role immedi- ately. Then he heard that a real Texan was being sought for a movie so ‘he became Brice Hutchens from He made several pictures again.
