In the final games of the season, Shavertown added the = Play-Off crown to its regular season champ- ionship by overpowering Huntsville, 60-47, and the All-Stars composed of players from Harveys Lake and East Dallas teams squeezed by the All-Stars from St. Therese’s and Prince of Peace by a score of 55-50. Shavertown Wins For the first quarter of the Hunts- ville-Shavertown fray, it looked as though it was going to be a close game right down to the final buzzer. Shavertown took an early 6-0 lead, but saw it vanish as Bob Grose swished the cords three times with his long set-shot. The end of the first quarter found Shavertown maintaining a slim 14- 12 margin. After that period, however, it was a losing effort for Huntsville, as, in scored them 22-6 to hold a 36-18 halftime lead. ‘Shavertown was sparked in the first half by sharp- shooting Bob Hontz, who hit for 14 of his 17 points in these first two stanzas. ; Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter, and Huntsville outscored Shavertown 20-15 in the final period, but it was too late for the losers to overcome such a large deficit. i Shavertown had four men tally in double figures; Bob Hontz with 17, Ernie Widmann with 15, and Stan Davis and Gene Brobst with 10 points each. For Huntsville, it was Gary Dietz and his 14 points leading the way, supported by Clint Brobst’s 11. In the All-Star game, both teams were well-matched, as, at the end of the first quarter, the St. Therese’s -Prince of Peace team led by one point, and at halftime the Harveys Lake-East Dallas cagers led by one point. The fourth quarter was the undoing of the losers as they were outscored 20-12, a period in which every one of the winners hit the scoring ‘column. For the winners, ‘“Dead-Eye” Frank Tencza was the leading point-getter with 5 goals and a perfect 5 for 5 from the free- He was backed up by Don ‘Zeek’ Hinkle, who tallied 11 counters.
