Famed Clown Coming
PAT KELLY
Pat Kelly, the son of the world-re-
nowned ‘‘sad-faced” clown, Emmett
Kelly, follows his father’s famed
footsteps as a feature of the Hamid-
Morton ‘Shrine Circus, sponsored by
the uniformed organizations of Irem
Temple AAONMS coming to the
Kingston Westside Armory, Wilkes-
Barre, Wednesday, Thursday, Fri-
day, and Saturday, April 5, 6, 7,
| and 8.
Pat makes up like his father, looks
exactly like his father, acts like his
father, and dresses in replica of the
famed Emmett. “It’s a true case of
‘like father, like son’’, says Pat as
he brushes off a worn wardrobe
trunk with his father’s old derby.
His grotesque cherry red nose bobs
up and down as he speaks.
Pat has made special starring
appearances but this is his initial
tour with a circus. “I was much too
busy to tour before. I wanted to
really perfect my act—to the small-
est gesture and detail and to acquire
my father’s mannerism has taken
me years of close observation and
hard daily work.”
Pat has achieved his goal. The
wonderful sad-faced clown lives
again, appealing to the deepest
emotions and feeling of youngsters
and oldsters alike,
Asked about the future of the cir-
cus as an art, Pat was quick to reply
“there will always be a circus as
long as there are children on earth
and as long as the spirit of youth
moves brightly about.”
Performances of the 24 act circus,
several making their American
debut in a show that will run two-
and-one-quarter hours will be given
afternoon and evening as well as on
Saturday morning.
