Three Back Mountain Church
. League games were played Saturday
night at Dallas Gym. The heavy
snowstorm of February 4, moved the
schedule back a week and the games
~ played - Saturday night were the
~ regularly-scheduled games of Febru-
ary 4.
Huntsville Loses
In the first contest, Huntsville
; dropped it's sixth straight game,los-
ing to Bhavertown 59-54. Hunts-
ville trailed by four points at the end
of the first quarter and by six points
at halftime, and managed to stay
right on the heels of Shavertown up
to the final buzzer. Westmoreland
School Coach Clint Brobst was
the only Huntsville cager to tally in
double figures, and he did it ina
big way, sinking 1.0 field goales and
4 foul shots for’ a total of 24 points.
Bob Grose and Gary Dietz, who, by
the way, displayed some fine passing,
each tallied 9 peints in a losing
cause. Bob Berlew, Huntsville cen-
ter, again proved his abilities on the
backboards and in blocking his
opponent's shots.
For Shavertown, Ernie Widmann
, displayed a wide variety of shots and
led his team with 19 counters.
Gene Brobst hauled down a number
of rebounds and managed to put
seme of them through the hoop to
end up second in the scoring column
with 13 points, and Bill Oney had
time to ready himself for his deadly
set, shot and tallied 10 points. This
victory puts Shavertown into undis-
puted second place, having posted
fiv nsecutive wins for a record of
six wins and two losses.
Lakers Drown P. of P.
In the second game, Prince of
leace, the only team to beat Har-
veys Lake this season, took a drubb-
i the hands of the Lakers in the
red¥ch game. Prince of Peace was
hampered by having only five play-
_ers show up, and, when guard Don
Purvin sprained his ankle in the
third quarter, they had to finish the
contest with four men. It was also
evident that the loss of Joe Lopasky,
had it’s ill effects. Don Rome led
the loser’s with 7 field goals and one
foul conversion for a total of 15
points, backed up by manager Tom
Richardson’s 14 points. For Harveys
Lake, Don ‘Zeeek’ Hinkle made it
clear that he will undoubtedly finish
as the League's leading scorer, as he
added to his point total by scoring 22
points on 11 field goals. He has now
scored a total of 168 points in eight
games for an average of 21 points per
game. Harry Derhammer and Larry
Crispell were the other two Lakers
in the double figures; Harry hitting
for 13 and Larry for 10 points. The
win keeps Harveys Lake in first
place with a 7-1 record, a berth they
have enjoyed all season.
St. Therese’s snapped a four-game
losjitg streak and avenged a Rt
1 defeat by romping over East
Dallas 72-57.
a Saints, after posting only a
-point lead at the quarter, put
into use a devastating fast break
which enabled them to maintain a
41-27 halftime lead. Bob Bolton and
Bob Shotwell finished with an amaz-
ing 46 points between them, Bolton
tallying 27 counters and Shotwell 19.
Twenty-one of Bolton’s 27 points
were registered in the first half, and,
in the second half, Jack Hogan
scored 10 of his 11 points and turned
in a fine game to help balance the
Saints’ oflensive attack. %
For East Dallas, sharpshooting
Frank Tencza was the main oflensive
threat, as he scored 8 goals and 2
foul shots for a total of 18 counters.
Guard Doug [Shelly scored 10 points
in the second half andl finished next
in the scoring column with 12 points.
Center Bill Lewis proved he can

Fairview handed [Lake-Lehman
another setback Friday might in a
thriller, 68-61, at Fairview.

period bulge stand up as Lake-Leh-
man matched them point for point
almost, thereafter.
The Knights outscored the win-
ners in the second period to trail 87-
30 at half, but both teams tallied 31
counters in the second half and Fair-
view ‘copped the seven point victory.
Hudock with 22 and Smith 20 led
the Fairview scoring; while Lake-
Lehman showed a better balanced
attack with four men in double
figures, but not enough to overcome
the scoring by Hudock and Smith.

Pace Loop Leaders
Westmoreland Mountaineers con- |
tinued their winning ways in the
North league Friday. night by down-
ing Wilkes-Barre Township 77-63, at
home. It was the ninth straight
league victory for coach Clint
Brobsts’ crew.
Again it was the scoring of
Trewern, Evans and Gauntlett. that
| paced the Mounts. The trio account-
{ed for 63 markers.
| Westmoreland took a 17-10 lead
in the opening quarter with the trio
mentioned above showing the way.
Wilkes-Barre Township didn’t let
this slim margin bother them as
they battled the locals on even terms
|in the second stanza and cut the
| margin to six points by half-time,
33-27.
With Gauntlett and Trewern hit-
ting consistently in the third period
Westmoreland upped the lead to 57-
41 by the end of the quarter.
‘The Township boys pressed West-
moreland in the final period but’
Westmoreland extended the lead to
over twenty points. ‘With the re-
serves in action the Braves were
able to cut the deficit but it was far
too late.
Brobst used all twelve men with
eight scoring.
Golaszewski led the Braves with
18 markers followed by Pudmanski
with 15 and Ferrence 13.
