Clyde Birth’s Dallas Esso station,
in cooperation with the Wyoming
Valley Motor Club, is now providing
through the AAA (Club's newly or-
ganized two-way radio network of
service stations.
Automobile Club members need-
ing first aid for their vehicles in thé
Dallas area will get the full advan-
tage of the modernizing program
when they call the Club for help.
As soon as the radio dispatchers get
the distress call at Club headquar-
ters, they call the proper radio-con-
trolled service truck and send it to
the scene of trouble. ~Birth’'s sta-
tion is ‘the fifth in the Motor Club's
network.
Birth claims that the new system
has already saved miles of unneces-
sary travel in giving service
| stranded motorists, since the driver
of the radio truck never has to re-
turn “to the station for further

With all the talk given to unem-
ployment; help to bring jobs here
to this area, etc, why don’t the
{local communities put some of the
loafing, gold bricking shovel artists
to work cleaning the snow from the
streets in the various towns.
Pittston is a shining example
while none are to be omitted.
The streets are lined with men
who know little but shovelling and
not a decent parking place in sight.
The parking problem was always
bad, now it is almost impossible.
This area is sick.
Should the town fathers give
those on the relief rolls a chance to
earn and pay off back taxes by
crediting instead of giving cash ?
Who in their right mind would
move a business into a dirty—ill-
kept—mismanaged community
where thousands of jobs are being
stumbled over and wallowed in
every day—with no one doing any-
thing about it ?

A re-registration meeting of Girl
Scout Troop 27 was held January 24
at the home of Mrs. Allan J. Covert,
Shavertown. Plans for the troop
were discussed, Several girls are
working on “God and Community
AwardsV, and all are working on
“Hospitality and Homemakers”
badges. Plans were made for a sleigh
ride at Irem Country Club.
On February 27 a Court of Awards
will be held at the home of Mrs.
Donald Smith to which the mothers
will be invited.
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Covert re-
cently received their five-year pins.

Wyoming Valley Motor Club joins
45 other clubs in the operation of
76 land stations using radio for |
their Emergency Road Service sys- |
tems. In addition to the benefits of |
two-way radio to the garage, the |
Club, and the members, the general
motoring public also benefits be-
cause of the ability of the Club to
promptly remove traffic hazards
‘caused by disabled vehicles.
AAA clubs using two-way radio
are dispatching service calls to some
1,700 vehicles. In 1960, they dis-
patched over three million calls by
radio.
It Pays To Advertise,
And A Story Helps
Happy landings for the lost collie
who rated not only an ad in the
Trading Post last week, but a news-
story. Mrs. Lawrence Kintzer, De-
munds, had dozens of calls after the
news story appeared, one from as
far away as Luzerne. It was the
red collar mentioned in the story
that identified Laddie.
Laddie, ten months old, had been
taken in by Ed Moore, East Dallas,
and been given the run of the house.
Mr. and Mrs. Moore both work, so a
few days later they regretfully took
the dog to Ed's mother, Mrs. Ray-
mond Moore, to await the call of
the Humane Association truck.
Miss Carlin lives next door to Mrs.
Moore, "and she recognized the
Kintzer dog at once. The Kintzers
are the folks who had four kids all
in one package last spring, estab-
lishing goat history.
