He will teach English, as in the past, replacing Joseph Evan of Plymouth, who substituted for him in his ab- position in Plymouth. Mr. Prater, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Prater, Fernbrook, is a grad- uate of East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He attended Dal- las Township, transferred to King- ston Township High School, and graduated in 1946. During his months in the service, he hung up an enviable record in track, taking part June 3 to 5 in the All Army Track Meet at Fort MacArthur in California, after par- ticipating in the final AAU meets in Hawaii as representative of the Twenty-Fifth Division. LUZERNE PAGE THIRTEEN Issue Statement On Kindergarten Only Limited Number Can Be Enrolled Parents interested in Kindergar- ten instruction please note, the ad- ministration of Dallas Area Schools has issued the following announce- ment. Dallas, Franklin and Monroe Township Boards have expressed their willingness to assume the in- structional cost of pupils from these townships attending the Kindergar- ten at Dallas Borough. Boards, however, do not feel that they can assume responsibility for transportation to Kindergarten at this time. Parents interested in en- rolling their children for Kinder- garten are asked to contact the office in the Dallas-Franklin Build- ing. Those parents who have al- ready enrolled their children at Dallas Borough need make no fur- ther contacts. The school administration is de- termining the total number of peo- ple who are interested in having their children attend Kindergarten. One reservation must be made in this arrangement. The number of pupils who can be accepted from Dallas, Franklin and Monroe Town- ships is limited. : Quotas will be determined for each Township. Children will be considered in order of registration, if these quotas are filled. Children to be eligible for Kinder- garten attendance must reach their fifth birthday before February 1, 1957. Their Birth Certificate and Vaccination Certificate must be pre- sented at time of registration. Penn State Center Seeks Names Of Its First Class Forty years ago this Fall, Penn State started extension classes in Wilkes-Barre. And today, the Pennsylvania State University Center, at 669 North Washington Street, is seeking the names . and addresses of all members of that first evening school class, together with informa- tion about the first instructors. Help New Teacher Get Off to Good, Start in Her Job Now that some schoo] systems have as high as 30 percent of: itheir staff new to their jobs each! year, the American Association’ of School Administrators, has [published a little booklet of sug- igestions on how to get the new Teacher off to a good start. Though primarily intended: for school administrators, the; booklet also points out that par- ents and all citizens have a, stake in the objective. Knowing that parents are interested in their work and stand ready to ‘help, the booklet points out, is; a source of encouraging satis-' faction to the new teacher. Many authorities in the field; ‘urge parents to become friendly, with teachers, volunteer help in special activities, and to partici- pate in civic functions aimed at; improving the stature of, and! respect for teachers.
