pict op ee SE rn A ete CO pe rato = / PAGE TEN Capt. Harry D. Latimer Promoted To Major Captain Harry L. Latimer of Pax- ton, Illinois, has been promoted to major in the Army. He is assigned to the Combat Developments Group, Headquarters. Continental Army Command, Fort Monroe, Virginia. A graduate of Paxton Community High School, he attended the Uni- versity of Illinois and enlisted in ‘the Army in 1943. He was com- missioned after graduation from In- fantry Officer Candidate School and served in Europe from 1944 to 1947. Later he served with the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions in this country and in 1953 was assigned to Headquarters, Army Antiaircraft Command in Korea. Prior to coming to Fort Monroe in July 1955, he was a student at the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leaven- worth, Kansas. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Major Latimer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Latimer, 639 South Washington © Street, Paxton. His wife is the former Leonora E. Casey of Dallas. Local Resident Awarded Geisinger Scholarship Award of a $200.00 scholarship to Mary Graves Hess, Dallas R. D. 1 by the Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (Danville) was announced’ at the hospital today. The scholarship donated by Merck & Co., Riverside, Pa. is one of four- teen scholarships made available to applicants to the Geisinger school by interested firms, organizations and individuals throughout the Eas- ‘tern-Central Pennsylvania area. To date nine scholarships have been awarded and five more . are still school of nursing in September.
