Taxes Apply To Farm Workers Farmer employers are reminded that Social Security taxes apply to cash wages paid to every farm worker to whom to employer paid $100.00 or more in cash wages dur- ing the year 1955. : i Social Security taxes are imposed on both employers and employees. The employer and employee tax are 2 percent of taxable wages paid. The employer must withhold 2 per- cent from the employees’ wages. Payment of the 2 percent withheld, together with the employer's 2 per- cent tax, must be made by the em- ployer, District Director F. P. Graham, Scranton, said that every farm em- ployer who owes these taxes must file a return on Form 943 and pay the taxes on or before January 31, 1956. Farm employers are urged to make timely returns and payments to avoid penalties and interest which may be imposed for late filing or failure to file. : Any employer subject to these taxes who has not registered or who has not applied for an identification number should do so at once. The required registration Form !SS-4 can be obtained from the District Direc- tor or the nearest office of the So- cial [Security Administration. The SS-4 should be filed with the Dis- trict Director when it is completed. Registered employers will be sup- plied forms and instructions by the District Director.
