Maurice K. Goddard, secretary,
Department of Forests and Waters,
has announced that early ordering
of tree seedlings for reforestration
purposes, is advisable. Insuring res-
ervation of stock for next spring
requires compliance with the Feb-
ruary 15th deadline for ordering.
Since the supply of all species is
limited, orders will be given pref-
erence as received.

Available seedlings include white
pine, red pine, Norway spruce,
white spruce, hemlock, Japanese
larch, European larch, black locust,
and black walnut. (Secretary God-
dard further advised that trees
from state forest nurseries are not
to be planted for ornamental,
Christmas tree, or landscape pur-
poses. Applications for trees to be
obtained during the spring of 1956
must be mailed to the Harrisburg
office of the Department of Forests
and Waters by February 15, 1956.
The minimum order acceptable is
for 1,000 seedlings, with 500 being
the minimum number of any one
specie. ;
The Department of Forests and
Waters has prepared a circular de-
scribing the kinds of trees available,
methods of planting and other in-
formation, which may be obtained
upon request. Landowners may
obtain detailed information and ap-
plications for ordering trees by
writing to the Pennsylvania Depart-
ment of Forests and Waters, Edu-
