Harness Races
$60,000 In Purses
At Bloomsburg Fair
Thirteen harness racing events,
paying purses in excess of $60,000
are on the four day program at the
Bloomsburg Fair this year.
Racing opens at one-thirty o’clock
on Tuesday afternoon and continues
through Friday afternoon, with the
nation’s finest two and three year
old trotters and pacers to appear
here.
Tuesday’s bill includes the two
stake races, the two-year-old pace
and three-year-old trot, the former
having an estimated value of $13,-
000 and the latter $12,000, while
the Wednesday program includes
the $14,000 two-year-old trot and
the $12,000 three-year-old pace.
Also on Tuesday is the $1,000
2:24 trot, while on Wednesday the
program includes the 2:12 pace, also
$1,000. :
Four races are on the card for
Thursday, the free-for-all trot, 2:16
pace, 2:20 trot and 2:24 pace, all
$1,000 purse events. Friday after-
noon features the 2:19 pace, free-
for-all pace and 2:16 trot. ”
Bloomburg’s Fair has been noted
for its excellent harness racing,
which each year attracts not only
the top horses in the nation, but
also the finest in drivers.
Following the racing program on
Friday afternoon the annual parade
of livestock will be staged around
the half-mile track. All prize-win-
ning livestock will participate and
music will be furnished by at least
twenty of Central Pennsylvania's
school bands.

the young Guernsey sire, Good-
leigh Franchon Ayre, from Dor-
rance Reynolds, according to the
American Guernsey Cattle Club.

surgical patient at the General Hos-
recovering nicely.
Richard Engelman who was seri-
ously injured in an automobile ac-
cident at Dallas last Sunday morn-
ing will submit to surgery on Mon-
day. :

of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Beahm.
Clarence - Keiper, Virginia, called
on relatives here on Saturday. Mrs.
Calvin Keiper returned with him.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nelson, of
Williamsport, spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Beahm. The
Nelsons are former Noxen residents.

Enjoy Basket Picnic
Couples Club, Shavertown Metho-
dist ‘Church, enjoyed a basket pic-
nic at Lake Jean Sunday afternoon.
Charles Poad presided at the busi-
ness meeting, at which plans were
laid for a Halloween party in Oc-
tober.

The Lend-A-Hand Women’s Club
had its monthly meeting at the
IOOF Hall Thursday, Sept. 8, when
plans were made to have a Hal-
lowe’en Party for the October meet-
ing. To vary the program it was de-
cided each member will pack a
suitcase with some Hallowe'en cos-
tume which will be bought and
worn by some other member. The
committee for the Sept. meeting,
Mesdames Robert Belles, Wayne
Hadsall, Warren Johnson, and Emil
Balewski, did a most commendable
job with entertainment and re-
freshments.
Kenneth Jackson enjoyed seeing
the Yankees play in New York, last
Sunday.
The Warren Johnsons accom-
panied Mrs. Johnson's brother, Mor-
gan Lewis, of Wilkes-Barre, to Penn
State University where he enrolled
as a member of the Junior Cass
last weekend.
The first meeting of the PTA for
the school year 1955-56 was held
at the school auditorium Monday,
with Samuel Davis presiding. Fol-
lowing the reading of the minutes
