Visitors At Church Bazaar Agree
That's The Place To Buy Presents
Brooke’s wood-working hobby room,
decorated in bright enamel, with
drawers that slid in and out, and
Prince of Peace Episcopal Church
bazaar hung up a new record of
over $1,400 Friday and Saturday of
last week, exceeding its quota in
all departments. As the purchaser
who found a big silver dollar in a
fifty-cent surprise package re-
marked, ‘“That’s what I call get-
ready for the doll’s house.
A display of gay bread-boards
shaped like pigs, a smaller edition
for cutting onions, letter holders,
reports Mrs. Paul Goddard, chair-
man of the surprise package booth,
was very brisk for an hour after the
silver dollar was unwrapped.
Folks who failed to do their
Christmas shopping at the fifth an-
nual bazaar made a big mistake, for
values were remarkable, and novel-
ties many and various. The sock
monkeys labelled for vestrymen,
brought down the house. Rev. Wil-
liam McClelland’s wore a modest

Stanley’s teen-age Sunday School
Class.
doubled its quota. A young Wilkes-
Barre art student, ' George Lutz,
made the impressive white elephant
mural which designated the table.
Mrs. Alwen Mortensen again
made and dressed dozens of dolls,
clowns, and stuffed animals, worked
up doll clothes and hats from odds
an ends, and did her usual brisk
handsomer than they did last year,
their gay checks and plaids making
a nice spot of color.
It was Francis Ambrose who made
the T-V stcols in animal motif, Al
Jones and Charles Brooke who
painted them.
Couples Club served refreshments,
and Mrs. Oswald Griffiths was in
charge of the Corner Store with its
colorful dispiay of jams, pickles and
jellies.
The smocked dresses in delicate
pastels made their usual appeal to
mother of little girls in need of
party clothes.
Ralph Postorive arranged for a
display of tweed suits and soft flan-
neis.
The polished cowhide suitcase,
auctioned off Saturday night, went
to Ralph Postorive, who had made
a substantial preliminary bid on it.
The two-piecer, lined in cinnamon
colored suede and fitted, was a con-
tribution from Juon Peron, president
of Argentina.

ment to eliminate possible entangle-
ment in red tape, 66 letters were

Back Mt. Lumber
Several of the larger church con-
gregations in the area have availed
themselves of the opportunity of-
fered by Granville Sowden to spon-
sor an evening of shopping at Back
Mountain Lumber Company. Shay-
ertown Methodist has reserved
households in April, with hopes that
some small item might be returned
for sale. Mrs. Charles Brooke, Mrs.
Clarence Woodruff, and Mrs. Alfred
James, in figuring out ways and
means early last year, did not ex-
pect anything so elaborate or costly.
In mid-August, when nothing had
been received, with the exception
of courtly notes of explanation from
royal households the committee felt
the idea was a total loss. The suit-
case was a surprise.

Participating churches will have
the privilege of a 10% commission
from all merchandise sold in the
main store, from 6 p.m. until clos-
ing at 9. This includes toys, hard-
ware, house-hold equipment, but
not coal or lumber.
Dates for Prince of Peace Episco-
pal, and Dallas Methodist churches
are being arranged and will be
announced. Smaller congregations
may band together in order to take
advantage of this offer, Mr. Sowden
says, but for the benefit of organ-
izations participating, it is neces-
sary to get a good crowd for most
favorable results.
Christian Friendly Class
Christian Friendly Class, Hunts-
ville Christian Church, will sponsor
a Paper Demonstration in the church
social rooms Thursday evening at 8.
