rg Lemons—Lemons _— a
fine -textured skin, heavy for their
size, are usually better quality than
the coarse-skinned, light colored
lemons, Marjorie J. Wormeck, Penn
State extension nutritionist, points
out.
Check Streaks—Watch out for
gray or black streaks running
through yarn of white and pastel
sweaters. These may be caused by
machine oil and are hard to remove
either by laundering or dry cleaning.
That's the word of caution from
Margery L. Bessom, Penn State ex-
tensicn clothing specialist.
’ Serve Simple Foods — Children
like simple foods and those served
separately rather than in combina-
tions. Potatoes and meat separately
are better liked than hash, accord-
ing to Marguerite L. Duvall, Penn
State extension family life specialist.
Wash Woolens—Wash woolens
and many man-made fabrics at a
low temperature. For Nylon, Orlon,
Dacron, Dynel, and Vicara, use
water about 110 degrees, Bernice
J. Tharp, Penn State extension
clothing specialist, suggests.
Use of Valances—Valances are
sometimes used for decoration or
to reduce the effect of high ceilings
and windows. But the main purpose
of a valance is to continue draperies
across the window, Doris L. Conklin,
Penn State extension home manage-
ment specialist, says.
