Ingathering
‘Beaumont Church
Voices Appeal
Beaumont Seventh Day Advent-
ists started their annual drive
for funds this week, for the support
of world-wide missionary work.
Rehabilitation work in Korea will
come in for a large share. Pastor
H. C. Reading said, Adventists op-
erate war orphanages and hospitals
which have been overflowing al-
most from the beginning of the
Korean War.
The loeal church plans to reach
its $425 goal in six weeks through
member and business firm contri-
butions and door-to-door solicita-
tion. The amount raised last year
was $426.
On a national scale last year’s
appeal netted $3,715,000, virtually
all of which went directly into hu-
manitarian work. Projects support-
ed from Ingathering funds are ad-
ministered by existing church or-
ganizations with income derived
elsewhere.
Adventists themselves last year
gave more than $56,000,000 for
support of a program of missions,
medical and educational work in
195 countries.
Community welfare work done
here in 1953 is valued at $160, re-
ports Mrs. Mattie Straley, home
missions director.
“Christian missions at home and
abroad have always been one of
the most powerful forces for en-
lightening backward peoples,” Pas-
tor Reading said in announcing this
year’s drive. ‘Millions of persons
are being helped to help them-
selves,” he added. This is the ef-
fective way to build solidly for a
more progressive free world.”

Move To Farm
Rev. Weldon Takes
Up Pastoral Duties
Rev. and Mrs. E. J. Waterstripe,
Sweet Valley, moved from the
Church of Christ parsonage on Tues-
day to their farm on Shickshinny
RD 1, three miles below their for-
mer residence. Rev. and Mrs. Don-
ald G. Weldon and their two chil-
dren, from Atlanta, Georgia, moved
into the vacant parsonage on Wed-
nesday.
Rev. Weldon preached in Sweet
Valley as a candidate for the posi-
tion in February, one of several who
were considering the appointment.
Rev. Waterstripe rounded out
twenty-five years of service to the
church last month,. the occasion
marked by a surprise party for the
retiring minister.
Rev. Waterstripe is a native of
Missouri. He preached in that
State, and in Northern New York,
Avis and Flemington before settling
in Sweet Valley. Mrs. Waterstripe
taught school in Sweet Valley for
thirty-seven years, retiring last
year.
The retired couple plan to raise
vegetables and flowers but not do
extensive farming.
Rev. Weldon will assume pasto-
ral duties this Sunday. Before re-
turning to Atlanta, he served in
Hawaii.

Cost of Lighting—The initial cost
of fluorescent lighting usually is
higher than that of incadescent,
Sanna Black, Penn State extension
home management specialist, re-
ports. But the operating cost of
fluorescent lighting is lower. It
gives between two and three times
more light for the same wattage as
filament ‘bulbs
Undercook Certain Freezer Foods
—Meats and vegetables that are
headed for the freezer in stews, spa-
ghetti sauce, and similar combina-
tions should be slightly undercooked,
Marjorie Wormeck, Penn State ex-
tension nutrition specialist, says.
