you go in there!”
—and they did, for here in these gardens laid out in the form
of a butterfly’s wings by Anna Hayatt Huntington is represented the
greatest collection of American sculpture in existence—all of it in
an outdoor setting of five oaks, holly, magnolias, china berries and
camelias. There are now 288 works by 156 sculptors.
its thirteen pools and surrounding walls are heightened by the in-
tensity of the mood, either in harmony or in contrast with the
sculpture.
Within the garden walls there are splendid vistas through the
flickering shade of great 200-year old live oaks to sunny places be-
yond. The ground beneath the oaks is always green with English
ivy, its emerald tones coming alive ‘in the quick lizards that dart
through it and up the boles of the trees.
Here in what were four rice plantations. Mr. and Mrs. Archer
Huntington of Connecticut have given 6,635 acres to the people of
South Carolina and America. Originally planned to contain the
sculpture of Mrs. Huntington, the garden has gradually found exten-
sion in collection representative of the history of American sculpture.
To these have been added on marble plaques throughout the
garden the verse of some of the writers who have taken pleasure in
the beauty of nature and her living forms. In the words of the
founder, “In all due homage to science, it may be well not to forget
inspiration, the sister of religion, without whose union the world
might yet become a desert.”

Remember the old saying,
“Don’t spare the horses?” Well,
Roy Rogers is doing his best to
debunks thi saying. His famous
horse Trigger is
“doubles”: or stand-ins. They're
used for long shots and during
the waiting periods while a scene
is being set up. Trigger himself,
of course, does all the tricks.

A manicurist on “The Big Pay-
off” told Randy Merriman she
took a course in it because it
was a “handy” profession . .. A
husband on “Strike it Rich” said
that marriage is a mutual part-
nership with the husband as the
mute . . . A masseuse told Bill
Cullen on “Walk a Mile” that
she was an expert on fats and
figures!
William Boyd, who has been
strictly a cowboy since he hit
the television jackpot as Hop-
along Cassidy, is scheduled to
make a big casting switch in the
new movie by Cecil B. DeMille,
along will play Moses in this re-
make of one of the all-time
movie hits. This will startle the
kids brought up on TV. Your
