Mr. and Mrs. Denton Updyke,
Shaver Avenue, Fernhrook, have
announced the birth of a baby boy,
Daniel. The Updykes have three
daughters. Mr. Updyke is em-
ployed by Fernbrook Mill.
Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Swingle,
Main Road, Shavertown, have an-
nounced the birth of a baby boy,
Michele Alwen, November 19. The
- Swingles have another son, aged
" five and a daughter, aged four. Mr.
Swingle is a teacher at West Pitts-
ton High School.
Mrs. H. H. Zeiser, Huntsville
Road, and Mrs. W. J. Smith, Mill
Street, left on Wednesday to spend
the winter at St. Petersburg, Fla.
They will stay at the Princess Mar-
tha Hotel.

Lake resident, has moved from
Long Island to Brookings, South
Dakota.

during the holidays visiting friends

Paul G. Laux Promoted
To Sergeant In Korea
Paul G. Laux, son of Mr. and Mrs.
~ Paul J. Laux, Pioneer Ave., Shaver-
town, was recently promoted to
' sergeant while serving in Xorea
" with the 3rd Infantry Division.
His division, “Rock of the Marne”
which saw bitter fighting in the
Iron Triangle and at Outpost Harry
and Jackson Heights, is now un-
dergoing intensive post-truce train-
Sergeant Laux, who arrived in
Korea last April, is the troop in-
formation and education specialist
in the 65th Regiment's Company B.
- He holds the Combat-Infantryman
. Badge, Korean Presidential Unit Ci-
tation Badge and UN and Korean
- Service Ribbon.
Laux, a graduate of Kingston
Township High School and King’s
College, entered the Army in July,
11952 and completed basic training
~ at Camp Breckenridge, Ky.

Presbyterian Church January 22 at
7:30 p.m. Following the candlelight
service, a reception will be held in

Business. She has been employed
by the Daron Block Company in
Luzerne. Mr. Cragle was graduated
from Lehman High School and
served with the U. S. Army for
two years. He is employed by the
Huntington Dairy, Huntington Mills.
The couple will reside at Sweet
Valley.

at a variety shower given by her
sister, Mrs. John Laughead of Phil-
adelphia at the Daron home and
at a personal shower given by Mrs.
Robert Golightly and Betty Tregon,
December 13, at the Tregon home.
Jean Hart Is Honored
At Variety Shower
Jean Hart, bride-elect, was guest
of honor at a variety shower given
by ‘Mrs. Tex Wilson, Mrs. Andrew
Denmon, Mrs. tvartin Quinn, Mrs.
Doris Mallin, all sisters of her fi-
ance, Robert Monk, and Mrs. John
Allabaugh, at the Monk home in
Pinecrest Avenue, Friday night.
Miss Hart and Mr. Monk will be
married tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The party table was attractive
with beautifully decorated cake as
centerpiece and pink tapers.

Dolores Kenjorski Is
Bride Of Louis Kubasek
of the recent death of her father,
Dolores Kenjorski, daughter of Mrs.
Helen and the late Louis Kenjorski
of Jackson Township, became the
bride of Laurence C. Kubasek, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kubasek of
Mocanaqua, December 26. Rev. Mi-
chael Kruper performed the double
ring ceremony in Mocanaqua Ro-
man Catholic Church before an altar
decked with holiday greens and
flowers.
Attendants were Mrs. Mary
Gzymski of Nanticoke, sister of the
bride, and Anthony Kubasek of
Mocanaqua, brother of the bride-
groom.
{The bride wore rose gaberdine
suit with white accessories. . Her
shoulder bouquet was of white or-
chids. Mrs. Gzymski chose navy
wool suit with pink accessories and
shoulder bouquet of pink carna-
tions. Mrs. Kenjorski, mother of the
bride selected black dress and Mrs.
Kubasek, mother of the bridegroom,
navy with shoulder bouquet of pink
carnations.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion was held in the church parlors
and the couple left on a trip.
Mrs. Kubasek was graduated from
Harter High School, Nanticoke, and
Empire School of Beauty Culture.
She is employed by the American
Cigar Factory in Lee Park. Mr. Ku-
basek was graduated from Shick-
shinny High School and served with |
the U. S. Army during World War
2. He is employed by Kerstetter
Silk Company in Mocanaqua.
The couple is residing with the
bride’s mother.

daughter, Wahnetta June, to Wil-
liam John Berti, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Norti Berti, Main Street,

Miss Evans is a graduate of
Westmoreland High School, class of
1953, and is employed by the Acme
Store at Luzerne. Mr. Berti was
graduated from Westmoreland High
School, class of .1952, and is asso-
ciated with his father in the coal
business. He is a member of the
Naval Reserves.

Robert Thomas
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ide. Ide-
town, announce the engagement of
their daughter, Mildred Marie, to
Robert Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Thomas, South Coventry,
Conn.
Miss Ide is a graduate of Lehman
High School and is employed at
Natona Mill. Mr. Thomas was
graduated from Chapman Technical
February 14
High School, New London, Conn.
and served for four years with the
U. S. Air Force, one and a half of
them in Okinawa. He is now em-
ployed by Pratt and Whitney Air-
craft Corporation at Hartford, Conn.

day, February 14.
Beverly Ann Davies, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Davies of Wyo-
ming Ave. Kingston, became the
bride of Russell K. Beck, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Beck of Center
Street, Shavertown, Friday, Janu-
ary 1 at 11 am. Rev. Alfred L.
Crayton performed the double ring
ceremony in Kingston Methodist
Church before an altar flanked with
vases of white chrysanthemums.
Attendants were Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph VanLabeck of Kingston,
cousins of the bride.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore teal blue street
length dress with matching hat.
Her shoulder bouquet was of yellow
orchids. Mrs. VanLabeck chose
dusty pink street length dress,
Both Mrs. Davies, mother of the
bride, and Mrs. Beck, mother of the
bridegroom, selected navy dresses
and accessories and shoulder bou-
quets of pink baby carnations.
Following the ceremony, a re-
ception was held in the church par-
lors and the couple left for a trip
to New York City.
Mrs. Beck is a graduate of Kings-
ton High School and Wyoming
Seminary Dean School of Business.
She has been employed by Kings-
ton National Bank. Mr. Beck was
graduated from Kingston Township
High School and Pennsylvania State
School of Technology. He served
for twenty months with the U. S.
Navy. He is now employed by Pratt
and Whitney Aircraft Corporation
at New Haven, Conn. 4

Out of town guests for the wed-
Old-Fashioned Sleighride
A large company of children and
adults gathered Sunday afternoon
at the Weiss Farm on Machell Ave-
nue for a sleighride. Charles Elston,
who farms the place, put strings
of sleighbells on the horses and
hitched them to ‘an old bobsled.
Mr. Elston’s daughter Ruth (Mrs.
Harry Howell) drove the horses.
The round of the open fields is one
mile long, and at each round the
sled was repacked with riders. Par-
ents of the riders joined the party
for some of the trips. There was
an endless round of gay songs with
Jingle Bells most frequently heard.
Rev. C. H. Frick took color motion
pictures of the party.

The Harveys Lake Women’s Ser-
vice Club met on January 7 at Lake
Noxen High School when reports
were given by various officers.

Club and the couple will leave on a
trip.
Miss Williams is a graduate of
Kingston Township High School and
has been employed at Back Moun-
tain Lumber Company. Mr. Parker
was graduated from Kingston High
School and served with the U. S.
Army in Korea. He is associated
with his father in the George A.
Parker and Son Service Station,
Shavertown.
The couple will reside at 99 Shav-
er Avenue, Shavertown.

Enjoy Skating Party

Heaven School enjoyed an ice skat-

transportation.

Roast Beef Dinner
Trucksville Volunteer Fire Com-

pound, eight ounce baby boy, Rob-
ert Paul, at Nesbitt Hospital, Janu-
ary 5. The Holdredges have an-
other boy, Patrick, aged four. Mrs.
Holdredge is the former Mary Con-
nyngham of Ashley.
