Austin of Beaumont from original research which consumed many hours interviewing old timers in various parts of the Township as well as perusing old records, manu- scripts and histories. In submitting the manuscript, Mrs. Austin wrote: “Since the day you called me last summer, I have been on the trail of local history which I have sincerely tried to make authentic by interviews and using old records. No one had any old pictures, maps or deeds. We sincerely appreciate all the time and effort you consumed in focusing our attention on our herit- age . . . at no better time than Thanksgiving, too.” Arch and Oce Beryl Austin ® A thousand thanks for a job well done—The Editor “ = Down Payment .. $395 .. 8295 ..S1195 $975 ... 8895 .. $895 Low in Price. All We - BU 7-2119 § ENE EERE REE FEAR EE EEE Dallas Borough - Kingston Town- ship jointure has an enrollment of 1067, 266 from Dallas Borough, 801 from Kingston Township. The jointure embraces three ele- mentary schools, Dallas Borough, Shavertown, and Trucksville; and Westmoreland high school in Trucksville. The only kindergarten in Back Mountain is operated by this joint- ure, two rooms with two sessions apiece, morning and afternoon, lo- cated in the former eleméntary school building in Dallas. Parents defray expenses of bus transporta- tion for kindergarten children. A few children from outside the school district are accommodated on a tuition basis. A cafeteria is Westmoreland. Athletics include football, basket- ball for both boys and girls, base- ball, a program of basketball on Saturday mornings during the win- ter for elementary school boys, and hockey as part of the Physical Ed- ucation program. maintained at Home Economics courses are pop- ular, with the girls, and shop work with the boys. Both boys and girls get a course in shop work in the grades, learning to work with sim- ple tools. The band, greatly augmented since Dallas Borough high school students transferred to Westmore- land, is one of the High School at- tractions. Led by Lester Lewis, for- mer director of Dallas Borough Band, it has won a number of awards. The high school building is con- structed on three different levels, with access to the ground direct from all floors. The auditorium- gymnasium opens onto a patio, ac- cross from which is the cafeteria, with home economics rooms and band practice room above it. Trucksville Grade School building on Oak Street, is a fairly new brick structure erected on the site of a former frame building which burned down at night with no casualties. Shavertown elementary is frame, with an annex now used by the YWCA, and a playground which during Little League baseball sea- son is used as the home playing ground of Back Mountain League. Extensive improvements have been financed by Little League to make it the best playing field of its kind in northeastern Pennsylvania. Dallas Borough school has two buildings, one the original frame structure used in years past for pri- mary and secondary grades, and a newer brick building, until two years ago the High School, now the grade school. There is a large auditorium- gymnasium. The jointure offices are maintained in a frame annex in rooms once assigned to fifth and sixth grades. The number of pupils is equalized among the three grade schools, some pupils from the lower part of the main highway in Trucksville being brought by bus to Dallas Bor- ough school. Buses take high school students from the school grounds To Encourage Bible Reading Adventists Will Provide Bookmarks Members of the Seventh-day Ad- ventist Church of Beaumont will join in a simultaneous drive of churches to encourage and increase Bible reading throughout the world, according to Pastor H. C. Reading. The local church will cooperate with the American Bible Society in its annual drive to encourage greater study of the Bible. The period from Thanksgiving to Christ- mas has been designated for a con- certed campaign to secure ‘several million individuals who will read the Bible each day. Church workers will distribute bookmarks suggesting selected pas- sages of Scripture for daily reading between now and Christmas. The theme of the drive is, “The Book of Hope.” This marks the ninth year the American Bible Society has spon- sored the plan to promote wide use of “America’s best seller.” Last year 14,000,000 copies of the book- mark were distributed. In addition the reading list was copied in at least 22,500,000 newspaper and magazine printings.
