James H. Race Succumbs At 83 Retired Farmer Dies In Kunkle James H. Race, 83, was buried in Beaumont Cemetery yesterday af- ternoon, following funeral services conducted from the Paul Nulton Funeral Home by Rev. Ruth L. Un- derwood and Rev. Samuel Arendt. Mr Race died Monday afternoon at the home of his son, Leon, who lived next door. He had been in fail- ing health for some months, but not seriously ill until the middle of Sep- tember He was a native of Vernon, son of the late William and Eunice Hal- lock Race. For the past fifty-six years he lived on the farm at Kun- kle, in later years turning over its operation to his son Leon. Mr. Race was a member of Kun- kle Methodist Church. He served on the Dallas Township school board, completing a term, and was elected to another term, a number of years ago For the past several years he had been increasingly in- active. Survivors include three sons, Le- on, Kunkle; John, Idetown and An- drew, Beaumont; a daughter, Mrs. Hulda Gaston, Bladensburg, Md; five grandchildren; a brother, Albert of Vernon, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Grey, Harpersville, N. Patient At Huntsville Dies Sunday Evening Miss Bessie Bowkley, 72, a patient at Huntsville Convalescent Home, died Sunday night. The funeral was held from a West Pittston funeral home Tuesday afternoon, Rev Rob- ert D. Yost officiating Interment was in the family plot in Pittston Cemetery. 5 A native of Pittston, Miss Bowk- ley had until a few months ago lived in Denver. Bertha Jenkins Doing Nicely Hopes To Be Home For 89th Birthday Mrs. Bertha Jenkins, Huntsville, hopes to be discharged from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in time to spend her eighty-ninth birthday with her family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Culp and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Culp. She is doing nicely since being ad- mitted as a medical patient Sep- tember 27. Mrs. Jenkins, a mainstay of Huntsville Christian Church, recov- ered sufficiently to attend services again after her desperate illness of last winter when her life hung by a thread. Mrs. Jenkins had stepped outside to get a letter from the mail box, and slipped and fell on the ice. Unable to rise, she had become thoroughly chilled before being discovered, and developed pneumonia with complications. Two years ago Mrs. Jenkins was the central figure in a five genera- tion picture published in The Post. Mrs. Jenkins, not phased by her eighty - seventh birthday, attended both morning and evening services across the street at the Christian Church, and was guest at the housewarming tendered Rev. and Mrs. Charles Frick in the new par- sonage.
