Know Your Neighbor

community of 65,000 population.
The market was a success from the
start, and so were the two restaur-
ants the established, but perhaps
it was his taste for ‘the movies that
lod him to become interested in
them, mot from the production
angle, but as an exhibitor, so with
the same old spirit of adventure
he built ‘the first Outdoor Theatre
in Ohio in 1939.
Crowds flocked to it and a year
later he built another outside of
North (Canton; but the Wiar inter-
vened and gasoline rationing cut
attendance.
After the war, Verne looked
about him and saw that Pennsyl-
vania was one of the last Eastern
[States to ‘accept tthe Outidoor movie.
After a trip through the State
he concluded that there was no
more beautiful or better localtion
than Dallas. That was enough. From
then on things began to happen.
Today Dallas Outdoor Theatre is
one of the finest in ‘the State with
every facility for the convenience,
comfort and pleasure of adults and
voungsters aliks, and responsible
for its smooth operation is Verne
Groff, who still, as full of energy
as ever, has taken on two other
jobs.
He is also district distributor for
Tropical [Paint & Oil Company of
(Cleveland, Ohio, a firm established
in 1883, amid one of the largest
producers of inside and outside
paints selling direct to large in-
dustrial as well as domestic con-
sumers.
His other business is the Groff
Vending & Novelty Company which
operates and services cigarette
vending "machines throughout Luz-
erne ‘County.
Well there you have if. It you
are a restless sort of fellow and
ican find a few more hours in the
day, you are also asked to serve
on ‘an Awuction (Committee.
Until last spring, Mr. and Mrs.
Groff and their son, Thomas Ed-
ward, aged 8, lived on Reynolds
Street in Kingston. Now they live
in their new home an Church
Street, Dallas,
They are members of Dallas
Methodist Church where Mrs. Groff
is president of the Durbin Class and
Verne, being restless, is 'a member
of Daddow Isaacs Post American
Legion, Kingston American Legion,
Kingston VFW, the Elks, Wilkes-
Barre Lions and Franklin Club.
